We booked double bed room with balcony view, instead we were given a twin bed room 202 with no balcony and smelly purple toilet. Bed frames were fixed to the wall and we could not join the two single beds either. The experience of staying at Olimpic Hotel was awful. When we asked the reception lady about our room, they said: Sorry ! We are overbooked hence we have to give you a twin room".

Misleading 4-star rating, water issue, poor room/bathroom facilities, mouldy bathroom

To be fair, there were two positive aspects to our stay.

First, the receptionist was consistently polite, helpful and accommodating. Despite the hotel's shortcomings, the staff member we encountered did their best to assist us and genuinely deserves credit for their attitude and service.

Second, the location was reasonably convenient, allowing us to walk into the centre of Tirana.

Cons:

On arrival, I had to enter through a back door, as the restaurant at the front was a separate business and not part of the hotel. There was a receptionist who, at the time, appeared to be the only member of staff. There was no lift, although fortunately our room was only one floor up. We were then informed that the swimming pool was not operational, despite this being one of the main reasons I had chosen the hotel.

We were given a traditional key rather than a key card. The room itself looked tired, old and very ordinary. There was a quilt but no quilt cover, which was disappointing. Even the pillows were unusual: there were three pillows for a double bed rather than the more practical arrangement of two or four.

Poor room and bathroom maintenance:
The bathroom was particularly disappointing and clearly showed signs of long-term neglect. The shower cubicle was missing its door, the edges were black with mould, and the sink tap was stained and far from clean-looking.

There was no mirror cabinet or shelf to keep basic personal toiletries such as perfume, shaving cream or a toothbrush case. Even finding somewhere safe to put my glasses while showering was a struggle. A clothes hanger was provided inside the bathroom, but that was about the extent of its practical facilities.

Worse still, the shower hose was split, causing most of the water to leak rather than flow properly through the showerhead.

A serious water supply problem:
The most frustrating incident occurred the evening before we left. While my wife was showering with shampoo in her hair, the water supply suddenly stopped completely.

We were told that there would be no water until the following day because the public water supply operated according to a timetable. We were given a container of water, which allowed us to do little more than wipe ourselves down with a wet towel before going to bed. This was an unacceptable situation for paying hotel guests.
