Everything about my stay i didn't like

It was dark and on a very busy main road. The fridge was dirty. The toilet/shower space was tiny and the overall proportions of the property were cramped. It wasn't very inviting and didn't feel safe. The front door was boarded up/not very well maintained. We ended up not staying overnight.

The shower was hanging off the wall, the staircase was very narrow, the view outside was awful, the double bed was small

Only problems I had with the property was asking for accessible room and got given the 5th room which was up 3 steep flights of stairs. Whilst having to carry a one year old and my luggage it was a big struggle. Would recommend and stay again. Also you get sent a code on arrival and you collect your key yourself. I didn't know this when booking and my phone had died when I got to the property so was confused for a while but managed to charge my phone in the petrol station and was able to resolve it. I rang the owners and they were very helpful and gave me instructions on how to get my room key

Very steep stairs and narrow corridors. I was on top floor so it killed me walking up. Shared kitchen wasn’t clean but it is shared so all depends on who else is staying at the same time as you. Didn’t use kitchen so didn’t matter.

The absolute embarrassing amount of rotten rubbish sh around the property...the awful smell the leaking boiler oh and the police knocking my door at 12am looking for people in the attached property...I've lived in rough places but this place has the feel of a crack house

Very noisy kept awake most of the night due to room next playing load music shouting and slamming doors, advertised as contractor accommodation yet I’m now going to work shattered I would of been just as tired if I done the 5 hour drive this morning rather than staying

People in other rooms arguing all night . No sound proofing could hear doors slamming all night . Booked studio with kitchen and no real kitchen items apart from some greasy dirty pans & plates old food still in them and someones cornflakes all over the place also shower never got hot . Oven smelt like it hadnt been cleaned since it was installed .

We had booked the studio but we were told on the day, due to maintenance issues, we would get a room instead.
The room was fine but I would have preferred the studio.
The main corridor was a bit tatty and smelled of smoke and lots of people closing doors through the night.
But if you need a well-priced place to lay your head for the night then stay here.
We will most likely book again, but would prefer the studio.

Told me my room no longer available and offered refund or alternative room. I told them I’d opt for refund and find alternative so didn’t stay. I got charged anyway despite this. Not answering any further communications from me (or booking .com) by the sound of it)
Further investigation of reviews find one or two similar experiences to mine but lots of 5 star reviews which are over the top.. praising it as a superb holiday location etc (it’s in Wallasey and handy for ferry) - so this is suspicious! Feel like I’ve been scammed.
