Our guide was friendly
Let’s start with the fact that it’s the worst value for money I ever experienced. 50€ for a mattress on a floor in a dirty, mosquito filled room without mosquito net.
- Everywhere there are “no smoking” signs, but people (including their own tattooists) just smoke right infront of your bedroom, 2 meters from where you sleep on the floor.
- The whole night there’s a loud party and our room was right at the lobby, even though the staff new we had a little child with us.
- “no paper in the toilet” signs, but no bins on the toilet.
Overall I left with a very bitter experience. If you go to Buscalan, ask at the parking for a gueshouse. You will provide you with the same quality (mattress on a floor) for 1/10 of this price.
Everything was good and clean!!
The BEST homestay in Buscalan. Its a brand new home with the best view of Buscalan. There was lots of space in each room, the bathrooms were modern, and the shared spaces were huge with very high ceilings.
The breakfast and dinner served was delicious, and they even offered laundry. The coffee was perfect to go with the balcony view.
Rien
J’ai payé pour une chambre familiale et me suis retrouvé dans une petite avec seulement un lit matelas au sol.
Spending time with the locals. Different culture.
Food. First trip in 2023 the food was very good. This trip, not so much.
The hotel was brilliant although, so new it's still under construction. Incredible views. Electronic toilets are a little too clever for their own good as the lid automatically closes before you finish, but a cool novelty all the same.
The guide to take you to the village was very expensive for the work she did. 1500 pesos. We were not aware of this extra expense until we checked out.
Location.
To expensive’ for extra person.
Every move you’ll need to pay😌
Lucy made me feel at home and kept me fed. Gilbert took me on an amazing day hike. They were the best people that I would ever hope to meet.
Our hosts Gilbert, Lucy and Rhem are amazing people. They were so hospitable, so warm and comforting. It was such a pleasure to stay at their home. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the beautiful village of Buscalan. I wish we could've stayed longer just to take in the clean mountain air, the scenic views and the delicious coffee. The meals that were prepared for us were nothing short of amazing. Everything was so delicious! Buscalan and GL's Crib & Coffee will always have a special place in my heart and I look forward to the chance to to visit and stay here again.
the location is remote and absolutely beautiful. able to get in touch with beautiful people, animals and nature.
nothing. cannot think of anything negative to say exceeded all expectations.
I didn't know but the cost included a guide to the village. I did pay for two days since at the last minute I had to postpone my stay and rebooked for the next day. It was like a VIP guide waiting while others had to find a guide to the village. Guide was very knowledgeable and spoke English.
Great location overlooking the rice terraces and mountains! Deck surrounding the building allowing for 3 sides with views of the areas. The 4th side is blocked by the new addition to the guesthouse. Very clean, with a rustic wood cabin feel. Includes electric when the village has it, we were out of power for 8hrs but came back on at night. WiFi available for free powered by solar panels, the first in the village. Running water, separate modern toilet and showers.
More modern amenities then I had expected.
Its got great views but on the far edge of the village.
The host/guide that they set me up with is nice. They responded very quickly to me, when I asked questions before showing up.
Also, this is the only option where you can book ahead of time. Which might be necessary if you're showing up on a weekend, because of all the domestic tourists.. However, it's not necessary to book ahead on a week day.
I can't tell if it was miscommunication, or if they were taking advantage of me because I don't know anything about Buscalan. I asked if I could just reserve a bed, and they had me book the whole room to 5 people.. claiming that there weren't other options. I verified with other people in the town, that I could've just showed up in person and paid for 1 rather than 5.
Also, the room itself is not actually a "Family Room". It's 2 mattresses on the ground in a small & empty room, and they expect 2-3 people per mattress.. which I know is kind of normal for The Philippines. But "Family Room" is misleading to most tourists.
They were also pretty pushy about setting me up with a tattoo artist that wasn't a close relative to Whang Od. I understand that they need the practice, and I felt bad turning the girl down when they wrongly told her that I was getting a tattoo from her.. but it's a life decision. Tattoos don't get away. I wanted mine to be authentic.
I had also clearly communicated to the owner that I would show up at around sunset. But for whatever reason, they asked the guide to wait for me at sunrise. They wasted that poor girl's day, and made me look bad for being late.
