Very clean, comfortable room
The location was good, right next to yala national park.
At first everything seemed fine. Nice place, nice hosts. Unfortunately the whole experience was ruined by a lack of important information. I enquired about a 'SAFARI' ride wondering if it was within my budget as I was travelling alone and would have to cover the full cost. The host said she could organise this and proceeded to make a call to find out how much half a day would be. She came back to me with a price of 14000 rupees, being Just about within my budget I agreed to this price.
The next morning the jeep arrived at 5.30 as arranged. We headed out and reached the main gate where I was told by the driver to get out of the jeep and pay at the gate 14000 rupees. As this was the figure I was given the day before I was under the impression this was the payment part as I hadn't paid anything until that point. I also confirmed with the driver that this was the final payment and nothing more, to which he said "yes finished".
After the safari was finish the driver took me back to the accommodation where I was then asked for another 14000 rupees. I tried to explain that I was under the impression the total cost was 14000 rupees which is what I was told. I had no idea there was a seperate gate fee. If I had been informed in the arrangement by the host that there was a seperate gate fee I would not of agreed to the safari as that would of been out of my budget. I then tried to explain this and was met with no understanding whatsoever. Both hosts and the driver started to get very angry as I didnt just pay straight away. The driver and the lady threatened to call the police if I didnt pay.
The host then called her manager who I spoke to on the phone. I tried to explain the situation to her and was repeatedly told there was a separate gate and jeep fee. With no understanding here and the rising aggravation I agreed to pay the full price.
Everything perfect except...
The hosts turned on the radiofor a prayer too loud at 4am; also they charged too much for breakfasts and lunch and water. They weren't the owners.
Our stay at MG Resort was exceptional!
The room was comfortable, spacious and clean. You’re surrounded by nature and there’s a lake close by in case you want to go for a stroll.
What stood out most for us though was the lovely couple looking after the place. They were such lovely and helpful people who genuinely care about their guests. We got breakfast and dinner as well and I can say without hesitation: this was the best food we have had in all of Sri Lanka!

I stayed at MG Resort in Kataragama and overall had a good experience. The resort itself is nice, with a peaceful location and very friendly, helpful staff. The atmosphere is dry and relaxing, making it a good place to unwind.
However, the access road to the resort is quite rough and not in the best condition. If you plan to visit, I strongly recommend not using a low ground-clearance car, as the terrain can be challenging.

Het was met de tuktuk een wat hobbelige weg om bij het hotel aan te komen, maar tegelijk is dat ook wel typisch Sri-Lanka :).
It's a very nice place in a slightly isolated area, which we really liked. The building looks beautiful both outside and inside. It's very clean, the rooms are large. The people who manage the place are very kind, they made us a very tasty meal. I recommend this place.
The place is new and all the amenities like AC etc work quite well. This was a godsend in the heat. There is a lake 5 mins walk from the place and it was gorgeous. We enjoyed a few hours of birdwatching there! The property is bang in the middle of the forest so it's beautiful and quiet. But most of my all our experience was made great by the lovely family that works there. The food is excellent best meal we'd had in Srilanka and it was made and served with such affection and hospitality. I cannot recommend this enough. In an area like Yala a place like this is even more rare.
The approach road is quite poor. Our taxi could not use this( it was a Prius so other cars with higher ground clearance should be ok) and the owners had to arrange a Tuktuk. While this is not their fault , it's something to keep in mind while booking

Road from the main road were highly recommended those jow are having SUV , however, it is hard to drive from the car

It's one of the best villas i have stayed at the staff was so friendly and they helped us and guided us through a lot.. the place is wonderful clean rooms and comfortable beds washrooms were also clean.. the balcony had a beautiful view couldn't ask for me definitely recommends this place it's wonderful
Very pleasant homestay, new place, very clean and spacious room, comfortable bed and new aircon. Very close to Yala Park Katagamuwa entrance and situated in a peaceful area surrounded by beautiful nature. The hosts were very welcoming and attentive and as I was a solo female traveler they did their best to make me feel comfortable and safe while staying with them; they even called me while I was in Kataragama during the night time to check if I was ok and if I needed anything.
They prepared for me at a very good price an abandant and delicious authentic Sri Lankan dinner with a great variety of dishes that I couldn't finish.They also organised a safari for me.
It is a bit difficult to find the place but the hosts organised a tuc tuc to pick me up from the bus station when I arrived in Kataragama so I don't get lost.
