The hotel is out of the hubbub of central Bath and has lovely, cared-for grounds of its own, as well as a sunny terrace. It has a deeply familial and country house atmosphere, bolstered by squashy sofas and the owners' art on the walls. The staff are universally charming and a pleasure to be around. Our bedroom was generously sized, attractively furnished in keeping with the style of the hotel and extremely well equipped.
Having (with difficulty) restricted ourselves to one very fine scone each for tea, we elected to have one of the tasting menus with accompanying flight of wine for supper. The chef knows what he's doing: I especially enjoyed the crab and the monkfish. Wines ranged globally, with a memorable Spanish white rioja among the treats on offer. At breakfast there was an extensive menu and coffee was excellent.
We weren't here long enough to venture into Bath proper, but it looks like an attractive stroll across a public park.
It would be churlish to complain about the price. We will certainly return if our travels bring us Bathwards again.
A lovely hotel & lovely staff. Such a pleasant location with a very nice walk into Bath through Victoria Park.
Nothing
The room was beautiful and also the gardens. The staff where amazing and happy to help.
Nothing. All was perfect.
The staff, extremely polite and helpful. The serenity of the gardens, just a wonderful stay.
We had a delightful stay...nothing was too much trouble. My partner's experience of the spa was extremely positive too.
Good location, nice staff, comfortable, very good food.
It is tired and in need of renovation, and is therefore rather poor value for money.
Staff were absolutely brilliant, couldn’t do enough for us and made us feel very welcome, the grounds and location were fantastic and the food and service was first class.
the cleaning left a lot to be desired, all the communal areas were very dusty and our room had fluff and cobwebs hanging from a light in the bathroom, I found a Kinder sweet wrapper left on the floor and it remained there for the duration of our stay, and when our room was serviced, the bed was so poorly made that a cushion was left under the covers in the middle of the bed.
Great location and a beautiful hotel with helpful staff
Nothing
Lovely building, very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent service.
A charming old building with lots of character within walking distance of Bath. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and attentive. The Spa was nice and my wife had a spa treatment which she said was very good. The food in the restaurant was good quality. The garden was also really nice, but we didn't spend time out there due to the weather in February - looks like a nice spot in the summer.
Attention to detail.
For the price, the attention to detail just wasn't there. No problem with the staff - they were great, but for example in the restaurant there was really only one waiter serving and he seemed to be quite rushed between all the tables - so, things like serving the wine was slower than expected. They needed more staff serving/waiting.
Other things like the flowers on our table in the evening had 'gone over' - they should've been replaced. There were marks on things like the picture frames in the (shared/lobby) bathroom which could've easily been cleaned, or replaced. We also noticed crumbs on the carpet in one of the lounges one afternoon, and they were still there the next day. The safe in our room didn't work - it was already locked so we could not set a new code - again, another example of attention to detail that wasn't there - the simple things.
The hotel is tired and dated so whilst the rooms were conformable, we didn't feel like they were worth the money - they need new carpets and a general refresh, including the bathrooms which were clean, but just felt a bit grubby due to marks/stains (on painted walls) and general wear-and-tear. The floorboards were also creaky (expected for an old building) but this was a bit of a disturbance.
We did have a nice stay at the hotel and enjoyed our time there - it was fine for one night, but we probably wouldn't go back as I think you can find better options for a one-night weekend getaway, where the standards and attention to detail is on point.
The staff were exceptional
I am afraid to report that the food was dreadful. Such a shame as everything else at the hotel was amazing. Our breakfast was so poor and lunch very basic and boring menus
Posizione molto comoda, vicina a Bath ma in una zona tranquilla. Personale impeccabile
Great Spa, food and general service from staff members
No air conditioning in the room, which made it quite stuffy.
