Pleasant staff, good breakfasts, very poor and dated facilities
Pros:

It is a great location and is an historic building. The staff were cordial and polite.

Cons:

Just to advise the more senior visitors visiting that, to access Room 7 we had to climb 2x flights of rickety uneven stairs, with dated carpets. The room was large and had an excellent air conditioning unit, which was used through the night.
The bathroom was dated, with a little water pressure for the shower also we had issues with the toilet which did not did not flush properly.
Our main concern was waking up to the smell of raw sewage in the bathroom. It was reported on three occasions, with the manager twice calling out a plumber. I was led to believe that no one else had reported a problem, but, upon looking at previous reviews, it had been raised as an issue in 2025. I think the higher management need to try staying in that room to experience the issues. Then maybe Green King will start properly investing into the property, instead of skimping and hoping guests just put up with the issues.

Enjoyable and convenient two days
Pros:

Welcoming and helpful staff. Particularly liked room fridge and air conditioning. Food was good and location perfect for our regular visits to Uttoxeter Racecourse Antique Fair

Pros:

Stayed room only and was not disappointed. The room was large and had everything we needed. The air con was a definite advantage in the middle of a heat wave. Staff friendly and helpful. The evening meal was very generous and tasty.

Grouting round bath could do with attention.

Beautiful old inn and wonderful room with historic features
Pros:

A beautiful building with a lot of history. We stayed in a beautiful room with all old beams exposed. Dinner and breakfast was very good and located in a very nice village. Lots of parking around the back.
