Unique
Great renovated building.

Wonderful walkable location. Clean, updated rooms. This historic building is being lovingly restored. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed. Good water pressure in the shower. Cool light fixtures throughout. The welcome drink was a nice touch. The hummus we ordered was very good.
Make use of the earplugs. We were not at the hotel on a night when they have music downstairs but the patrons at the outside patio, which was just outside our room, were pretty loud. Things do quiet down at a reasonable time though.
Great little spot!
We had zero problems with this hotel. No idea why their overall score is lower than it deserves over petty or made-up issues.
I usually set the search filter to only show me hotels with an overall score over 8.0 but for Trinidad, that gave me very poor choices. So I dug deeper on this hotel and read other amazing/great online reviews and decided to trust those people over the ones I saw on here.
I work for an airline and stay in several “major” hotel chains every month and need to get away from anything that resembles the boring layout of 90% of all hotel rooms in the USA and The Well & Taproom ticked off all of the boxes for a unique stay.
The historic building on the main street in Trinidad in their historic downtown district is pretty perfect. We only booked the room about 5 hours before arrival as we heading to New Mexico to start a 2-week road trip and decided to drive less on the first day. We ended up booking only a double room that looks much smaller in the pictures than it actually was. It’s narrow but long which made it feel much bigger than expected. Plenty of space for our 4 suitcases and smaller bags. Not at all crowded and we had anticipated it to be a squeeze. The high ceilings also make it feel much bigger.
I think one whiner in the reviews didn’t like the shower not having a curtain or a door so I imagine I’ve you’re not well-traveled then that would be a surprise. Don’t go to Greece, Italy, France, Poland, Germany, etc if that’s going to ruin your trip. The shower itself is a big space and didn’t have super low-flow water pressure so it was good.
We didn’t notice any street noise but the hotel provides ear plugs for those light sleeping complainers who expect a building from the 19th century to be like a cookie cutter hotel directly off of the highway with soundproof windows. It’s an historic building.
The parking lot is gravel. I had the car washed and waxed the day before. Not the smartest move the day before a 15-day road trip though.
They need better photos of the historical architecture of this building inside and out on this app. The pictures will win over more.
Location
The room didn't match the pictures at all, neither did the restaurant area or lobby. The room was odd shaped, not even in a cute way, and hit my head on weird beams everywhere. Stairs to get up them for my old father was incredibly high up, and karaoke below us until 10pm on a Tuesday night could hear right thru thenfloor
Cool old hotel that has been renovated , preserving the character of the old hotel, yet updating in an artful, eclectic way. We were there on Sunday night & it was quiet & peaceful. The taproom does have bands on other nights, so noise might be an issue then. The food in the taproom was quite good. The owners were great. The old town Main Street is also being renovated & updated with small shops & businesses. You will enjoy your stay here.
We loved the old historic building and the fact that a young couple has worked hard to refurbish it! It was great to be in the midst of the downtown which has some of the most beautiful buildings we have seen for such a small town. They have been lovingly taken care of and it is a great revitilization of the area. There were also some great little restuarants within a short walk which we loved! We so enjoyed chatting with the owner of this hotel and his service in the food and tap room was awesome. We really liked eating supper there also!
In center of town. Walking distance to good food.
Fan was high speed only. No coffee maker.
Bar noise through the ceiling. No light. Just one lamp floor next to bed. Only additional light was from bathroom. I told staff. No response. Very disappointed. I spent over 100 dollars. Got fucked
Old historical building.
Room was hot and fan had no control, off or full force and loud.
I loved the fact that it is an old building that has been somewhat restored. The staff were exceptional. The beds were comfy, the room clean and was what one should expect from an old building. The bar below has a small menu and held Karaoke the night we were there, some enjoyable entertainment.
If you are a light sleeper this is definitely not the place for you. We knew we would be above the bar and noise would travel, and it did, but they shut down at a decent time (I believe 10:00 pm) so no sleep lost there. The issue comes from the room next door. There is no sort of sound proofing between rooms through the adjoining door. We got to hear the whole morning conversation of the couple next door from the time they woke up until they left. Not an issue for us, but if you need quiet to sleep, not so good.
If you have mobility issues, they are working on an elevator but it wasn’t functional when we stayed, so call to see if they have it working as there is a long flight of stairs up to the room.
The location is nice.
My queen-size bed was a full-size bed. The room looked nothing like what was advertised and didn't have the view I paid extra for. The shower was very rusty, with peeling paint, and lacked towel bars. Parking is sketchy. I didn't feel comfortable leaving my car in a dirt lot behind the building.
