The view is great
The place is very basic, rustic and neglected, far away from anywhere and difficult to access. Little food options, onsite restaurant could barely be called operational.

Absolute tranquility in the suburbs of Kisumu! The private bed and clean washroom were exceptional for the price point that's attractive for budget travellers.
With the tranquility and view, Lago Resort is isolated. Be prepared to hike through a rural district for a couple of kilometres before getting to a main road with matatus.

Really ruined my stay there
The views
There is mold everywhere (even the fridge). We had breakfast and that night the cups and leftovers were still there. There were couple of times were it seemed we were disturbing their family life (we were the only ones in the hotel). No cleaning at all. It’s so far away no taxis wants to take you there unless their friend Robert who will charge you double.
The Ambience and Naturality of the area. Beautiful and breath taking Scenery. I will advocate this place anytime

Hillary the cook, is extremely polite and very talented with meal preparation. We enjoyed all our meals. Ronald at the front desk is very courteous, polite and customer service oriented. The rooms are very clean and the beds are very comfortable, with fresh, white bedding.

This is the perfect hotel for a getaway, far but not super far from the main streets, up in the hills.
Hilllar and Roland, If it's not a Hillar then it's Roland, If it's not Roland then it's a Hillar who alternately compete in hospitality and kindness. Long ago they left their tribes and climbed the Hill from where they look at the lake Victoria, Kisumu city and maybe even you down there as you climb towards them because a small number of taxi drivers will bring you up there for a decent price, due to the bad roads.
These two guys are taking care of the property 24/7. Pass through their door is like the entrance to the castle where you will be greeted by perfectly clean sheets and possibly some noisy guests but above all you will be greeted by hospitality, common kitchen, reliable wi-fi and electricity, beautiful 265 degrees view, many trees and spacious green yard.
These guys are fearless and will look after you and do everything to make your stay comfortable, pleasant, clean. Even if you meet a few crawling creatures on the way, don't worry, they will catch them before they even enter the yard. And don't forget to sometimes share food with these relaxed people, because they are far from their families. But if necessary, Hillar will prepare a feast for you, from the menu.
