I reached the hotel at 2:00 pm after a gruelling 6-hour ride from Tokyo but I was made to wait for an hour because there's no concept of thinking outside the box and offering a free early check-in. In Japan, rules are rules, period. At exactly 2:55 pm, the front desk girl approached me in the waiting lounge and it took exactly 5 minutes for her to arrange the paperwork, take photocopies etc. She handed over the room key to me at exactly 3:00 pm (that's the check-in time). Welcome to Japan. When I approached my room on the eighth floor, I saw several empty rooms being tidied up. She could have easily arranged for an early check-in, but I forgot I was in Japan.
The hotel overall is very old, third world type meant for poor people. There's no access card that you scan to enter the room. They gave me a very heavy, third-world metal key that I used to manually unlock the door. Who does that in the 21st century? There's a constant, weird smell in the room. I think the smell is from either the old furniture, old carpet, or unclean filters in the air-conditioning vent. By the end of my 3-day stay, I had a minor lung and throat infection because of the stench. There's no extra toothpaste or ear buds in the washroom. You must beg for more toothpaste, toothbrush, razor, shaving cream at the reception. There's no body lotion, trash can, or a tissue box in the washroom either. The internet was choppy. I was offline almost the whole night. One Obayashi (hotel staff) explained to me via booking.com as to how to reach the hotel. They said it's a square building after BIC Camera shop. Well, it's not a square building, it's clearly a round building.
[ ] There are two positive sides though. The hotel is very close to Kumamoto station and, the breakfast is very lavish and decadent, although later I realized most items were dead-cold (except for the soups and coffee). Fried eggs, omlettes, bacon, sausages, meat cutlets etc were tasteless and cold.

Not clean enough. The bathroom doesn't have a fan.
The proximity to the station was as close as you can get. Easy access to trams and trains.
The carpet and sofa in our room were stained.
