Two nights, no disturbances. Room was cool despite the high temperatures outside.
Pros:

As a near octogenarian, I view showers over baths with concern. Reception very kindly moved us to a room with a shower. One potential accident negated.

Cons:

The room to which we were moved (an outside lodge) had no WiFi access. No big deal, I simply accessed WiFi from the main building.

Comfy bed. Boiling rooms. Wouldn’t stay again unless I was desperate
Pros:

Lovely grounds and building. Comfortable bed.

Everything else is tired and frankly some parts are filthy - like the carpets in the corridors. It is desperate for some TLC.

Staff were fine, except the person in the marquee serving surge Guinness when the surge machine wasn’t working - it’s like frog spawn. Looked at me like I was stupid when I explained I wasn’t drinking that.

Drinks in marquee were warm and they ran out of pretty much everything.

Cons:

See above

Pros:

Beautiful hotel and grounds. Very helpful and friendly staff. Food was very good in the restaurant but the menu was a bit limited for choice.

Cons:

The bed was very uncomfortable. The mattress needs replacing as it was worn out.

No aircon in rooms
Eggs at breakfast was inedible, actually couldn’t cut the egg with a knife
Music from downstairs was very loud & some staff weee very pleasant where others lacked attention

Nice stay, good value spa, basic breakfast
Pros:

It was an old style yet clean venue.

Cons:

The breakfast was very basic and if there were more than 3/4 tables in the room at a time, the replacement of food very slow.

Not worth 4 stars
Pros:

The hotel is set in large, attractive grounds and has an impressive, historic facade. It is not far from Chesterfield and other sites in the Peak District and is on a bus route.
Most of the staff were pleasant and tried to be helpful but were often incompetent, e.g. we were locked out of our room after 24 hours although we were booked in for 3 nights.
Parking was outside our room.

Cons:

Our room, 408, was large, on the ground floor and opened directly from the courtyard which is a considerable distance from the main building. I was told this was a quiet room and it was, in terms of hotel noise, but the main road is just behind it. I felt security was a potential issue as there is direct easy access from this road into the courtyard and the rooms.

The room was very damp smelling, probably due to the shower which sprayed water everywhere, and the loose floor tile which trapped water beneath.
The room was very hot and the windows only opened a few inches. Several of the window catches did not work properly.
There was no WiFi at all in the room.
Service in the restaurant was disorganised and chaotic when busy due to large functions taking place. There was inadequate staffing for the number of hotel guests.
Although we raised the maintenance issues with reception, nothing was fixed.

If you can walk long distance book in
Pros:

The building looked nice food was lovely

Cons:

How far away are room was. With myself having bad hips going up a flight of stairs to come back down. No wifi didn’t help. Taxi driver couldn’t find the entrance. I had a used towel in my room only 1 set of towels that were clean. Staff was Okie. Were helpful at breakfast with dietry requirements. Took afew times to remind them but got there. Just the walking from the room to entrance was just hard
