The Red Lion absolutely deserves its impressive ratings. The food at both dinner and breakfast was exceptional and every member of staff we had the pleasure of meeting were so welcoming and proficient.
The room was a good size and well appointed but the building is not very well insulated and we were aware of sound from people above and next to us in the morning.

Breakfast was great also had an evening meal which was lovely. Stayed before and its an ideal location for where we needed to go. Staff are friendly & helpful.
Nothing better, just they did say that they had pop up kitchen on a Tuesday which happened to be a curry which we decided to do the following night Wednesday, as we had had a good meal from them before, and it didn't disappoint.
Stayed here twice now and know the pub well its a Lovely historic pub.. great rooms beautifully furnished.. good tea tea tray and toiletries provided and the breakfast was exceptional!!

The Red Lion is a warm and welcoming inn. The food was very good and the staff were very obliging on all requests and queries you may have. The breakfast was lovely and they portioned it exactly as I requested. My room was warm and comfy with all the facilities I needed.

I only stayed at The Red Lion Hotel for one night, but honestly, so much good can happen in just one evening and morning!
Madley is such a quiet, peaceful location, which was perfect before my interview the next day. The room was lovely and comfortable, and I really appreciated the historic character of the building — especially the main reception area and the breakfast room. The en suite bathroom was great too. The room was warm, the hot water worked perfectly, and the bed was really comfortable. I even had one of the most satisfying showers I’ve had in a while — the water pressure was better than mine at home!
After a long train journey from Leicester, I slept really well and woke up refreshed and ready for my interview. Breakfast was a classic full English — sausage, bacon, eggs, beans and mushrooms — simple, delicious, and exactly what I needed to start the day.
But what truly made this stay unforgettable was the kindness of the staff.
I had pre-booked an Uber for the morning, but when it was time to leave, no drivers were available in the area. I started to panic because I was worried about being late and missing my interview opportunity. I felt completely stranded.
The staff immediately stepped in to help. They were calm, reassuring, and incredibly supportive. They contacted the owner, who happened to be on the way to the hotel, explained my situation, and without hesitation, I was given a lift to my interview location — and they wouldn’t even accept payment for it.
I can’t describe how relieved I felt in that moment. It was such a genuine act of kindness toward someone they had only just met. It meant more to me than they probably realise.
From the warm welcome the night before to helping me in a stressful moment, everyone truly went above and beyond. I’ll never forget the experience.
I absolutely recommend this hotel — not just for the comfort and food, but for the incredible people who run it.
The only thing I didn't like is...NOTHING! The stay was homely, the shower was great, the breakfast was delicious and filling, and the staff were all WONDERFUL! What can I say? I love EVERYTHING about The Red Lion hotel!
Beautiful room, food was amazing, best pie I have ever had ! Staff were lovely.
The room got incredibly hot as the heating was on full so although it was lovely when we first arrived, we woke at 3 a.m and were sweltering so had to turn the radiators off, however this is a personal preference.
