The staff were friendly enough. The restaurant was okay. The hotel was a short drive from the airport.

Cons:

We stayed at Hotel Las Espuelas for one night as we had an early morning flight and needed to be close to the airport. We only needed a room for a few hours as we needed to check out at 3:30 am. Therefore, we chose this hotel to avoid paying the price for some of the more expensive hotels. Another reason we chose this hotel was that the website stated that there was an airport shuttle, this was actually just a $30 US taxi paid by us. I made a mistake while booking and didn't type in two people. When we arrived we were told that it would be another $30 US for my husband. I apologized and felt this was fair as it was my mistake. The front desk said it was because breakfast was included which obviously we didn't have as we checked out at 3:30 am, again this was my mistake so didn't make a fuss. The reason for giving the hotel 1 star is that I cannot believe it is classified as a 3 star hotel! We stayed at several 3 star hotels in Costa Rica and aside from this one they were all wonderful. Our room was filthy (please see the attached photo of my husbands brand new white socks that he wore around the room). The bed sheets were thin and falling apart and the pillows were lumpy and stained, likely had not been replaced in years. The walls of the room were dirty, stained and had marks all over them. They are in dire need of a paint job. The bathroom was also gross and had no toiletries in it, no shampoo, no conditioner, not even soap! There was no ice machine at the hotel, nor was there a safe in the room.
How they justify charging $130 US (plus, plus) for a room that they can't bother to care for and clean properly is insane. Spend your money elsewhere!

A pleasant stay for a night before a flight
Pros:

Spacious room, beautiful grounds, nice large pool, good air conditioning, decent breakfast

Excelente Hotel, muy cómodo, muy limpio, excelente atención de su gente. La piscina es exactamente lo que buscaba, hubiera sido fantástico brindaran atención en el bar de la piscina para no salir a comprar.

Cons:

Tener que salir a comprar un baso para mi habitación, comprar hielo porque no había una refrigeradora en la habitación, precios de las cervezas un poco altos, en vez de mejorar los precios para que sus clientes no salgan a comprar afuera, hay muchos lugares para hacerlo, critica constructiva, entre mas tiempo pasen los clientes dentro de las instalaciones, con precios accesibles son mas ingresos para el hotel.
