Burki Castle and Cellar was a delight to stay in! It’s nestled in the foothills of the greater Caucasus mountains in Kvareli. It’s right at the main road that leads to Tbilisi. The hotel itself is in a large estate that is home to a vast vineyard/plantation where they produce grapes that they use to make their very delicious wine. I like the location as it’s in the countryside yet it was very accessible and easy to find. We were able to get to all the tourist spots around Kakheti. I would say it’s in the center of most of the places you would have on your to visit list.
We booked two rooms and they are spacious and not cluttered with unnecessary decors, yet they feel cozy. You can expect all the basic amenities from a 4 star hotel. The bathroom was very neat too. They have good air conditioning for both hot and cold weather. And the best part, our room had the best view of the sunset and sunrise across the valley and the sheep grazing on the field across the road.
Since the hotel is quite a drive away from the main towns (about 40mins), I was a little worries about our dinner but they have an amazing restaurant that operates until 10pm! The food was incredible and the wine is simply exquisite. We even ordered room service after dinner just because we loved the food and wine so much. They have an amazing breakfast too!
Their staff were also very warm, welcoming and super accommodating. Our room did not have a large mirror but they immediately brought one when we requested.
All in all, we loved every minute of our stay. This is a new hotel but it feels like they’ve been doing this for a while.
We’d just like to give a quick shout out to Vano (the front office manager), Goga (who was the super accommodating and friendly waiter at the restaurant), the very warm breakfast cook and Mr. Burki himself who shared with us the history of the hotel. Thank you so much once again!
Perfect environment, delicious food and friendly staff.
P.S. they have the best wine I have ever tasted called Kisi.
Frühstück typisch georgisch sehr gut
Zimmer sehr groß
Bad neu und großzügig
Personal sehr freundlich
Lovely staff and lovely hotel overall, it's been well designed with marble and no expense spared for the design. Big rooms, big beds and comfy, loads of space at the pool and nice breakfast.
The setting and backdrop of the mountains and vineyards will take anyone's breath away. Although this hotel is out the way it felt within reach of a few small towns and many brilliant vineyards which all should visit.
Food at the restaurant is mostly very good, a few things are not to my liking but that's just personal preference, the chicken and creamy garlic dish they serve is absolutely delicious!
The wine cellars are stunning I really think these should be a focus for the hotel guests more as they are beautiful and special for the location, an informal tour is available where you can see the process briefly which we did on the last day. My only request would be that maybe they push this and local wine/spirit tasting as I would have paid to try all the regions offerings (just a thought). They offered wine for free when we were there as a nice touch and considering you're at a vineyard it really added to the experience.
Overall we loved it here even with the minor teething issues.
They are clearly having some teething issues as they are a new hotel;
Silly things like playing music from YouTube and a phone so it cuts out for calls/texts and for adverts, I'd recommend paying for Spotify or Amazon Music it really would make the experience better mainly when chilling at the pool or restaurant.
Not having half the drinks on the menu; not having a few things is normal but genuinely I went through half the menu +mainly cocktails) and they kept saying they didn't have it, alcohol doesn't expire so stock that bar up! This is also for the food at the restaurant, they just need to have this more ready but appreciate this is life sometimes with deliveries.
Building work is still not finished for the cottages at the back meaning the fountain and building are still under development. It didn't bother me at all but for some people they just need to be aware this is new and still be finished mainly at the back (out of sight for the most part), I stress there was no noise and it didn't bother me at all for my stay.
I know these are minor things but I'd rather give a completely honest review. I loved this hotel over many I stayed in with my family in Georgia and I know the next time me and my family come all this will be fixed as the staff really care about their customers and what they offer, highly recommended.
High quality facilities, pool, nature, food, service.
The hotel was new and the room was very spacious and clean with nice amenities. The owner was very friendly and nice as well. Restaurant staff and most of the reception staff were nice too. Very nice outdoor rooftop at the restaurant.
The room got quite warm and we were unable to adjust the temperature. We feedback to the reception and they mentioned they will get the technician to check it out. However on our last night it was still the same and we just bore with it since it was our last night. The breakfast was also very basic. The lady at the reception when we checked out was quite rude.
