Wonderful stay at Zan-Seyoum
Pros:

Zan-Seyoum Hotel was absolutely great! The location was perfect, it was extremely comfortable and Yohannes and his staff were exceptional. They went above and beyond to make it a wonderful stay! Our tour guide Moges and driver Hailu were both amazing. They made sure we felt safe and well cared for. Moges did a fantastic job giving us tours of all the stone churches of Lalibela. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay in Lalibela. I highly recommend staying with Yohannes at Zan-Seyoum and using Hailu as your driver and Moges as your tour guide.

Man kann nicht besser unterkommen. Ein Top Service. Sonderwünsche sind Herzensangelegenheit. Im Vorfeld wurden wir bereits mit wichtigen Infos versorgt. Do das wir uns vor Ort um nichts kümmern bräuchten. SIM Karte lag parat. Geld tauschen wurde erl. Usw. Ich habe solch einen Service noch nie erlebt.

Stay here - it was super
Pros:

My 24 year old son and I stayed here. Excellent communication from the owner. Spotlessly clean room. A big room with a balcony. Great home-cooked breakfast. The owner also organised a guide and we did an excellent programme visiting the churches and the surrounding region. We felt safe and welcome. Honestly, you should stay here. It was great!

The staff here are amazing. The rooms spacious and super clear. The breakfast yum, the tours organised - first class (lalibelatourscorner). Yohannes and his staff, from the hotel, went the extra mile in terms of communication, helping us find the best honey, providing delicious snacks and beer. It’s a great place to stay in Lalibela.

Pros:

Title: The best hotel in town — and it's not even close

This is a small place. But it's the best place in town — by far.

And that's entirely because of the owner. You can feel his heart in every corner of this hotel. From the way the rooms are kept to the little touches you wouldn't expect in a remote town — nothing is accidental. Everything is intentional.

What struck me most was his anticipation. There were moments I hadn't even asked for anything yet, and he was already there at the door, ready with exactly what I needed. It's the kind of service that can't be trained — it has to come from genuine care.

He also went out of his way to connect us with reliable guides and helped arrange our itinerary, taking so much stress off our shoulders. He wasn't just running a business; he was hosting us like family.

If you're coming to Lalibela, this is the place. Not because there's a better option — but because there doesn't need to be. This one already sets the standard.

I truly hope their success continues to grow. They absolutely deserve it.

Das Hotelpersonal war großartig und hat sich um jeden Wunsch gekümmert. Die Atmosphäre war wie bei Freunden zu Gast. Auf Wunsch konnte man sich eine komplette Tour planen lassen. Schon im Vorfeld wurde man nach speziellen Wünschen gefragt. In meinem Fall war es die etwas entlegene Kirche Yemrehanna Kristos. Yohannes hat alles organisiert, inklusive dem Transfer vom und zum Flughafen. Es war ein perfekter Aufenthalt!

A second home with friendly staff
Pros:

My stay in **Lalibela** was unforgettable, and this hotel made it even more special. Ethiopian hospitality is unmatched in general, but the care here truly stands out.

The manager, Yohannes, goes above and beyond in a way that feels genuine, not forced. He treats you like family, always checking in on your comfort and safety. He’s there to warmly greet you when you return and personally say goodbye when you head out, which says a lot about how much he cares.

The food was honestly the best I had in all of Ethiopia — no exaggeration. I preferred eating at the hotel rather than trying restaurants in Lalibela. Breakfast is included and generous: eggs, pancakes, fresh juice, a hot drink, and delicious homemade local honey.

My top tip: ask for Addisu as your guide. He’s educated, professional, naturally funny, and makes the history come alive. Over my week there, he truly became a good friend.

If you want to feel welcomed, safe, and incredibly well-fed in Lalibela, this is the place to stay.

The best place to stay in Lalibela!
Pros:

stay in Lalibela was absolutely unforgettable, and a huge part of that was thanks to the hotel owner, Yohannes.
He is an incredible person who truly cares about his guests and did everything possible to make my stay comfortable and special. From the first moment, I felt welcomed and genuinely looked after.

The room was excellent — clean, comfortable, and well prepared. The hotel territory is very pleasant, well maintained, and creates a peaceful atmosphere. The breakfasts were unbelievably delicious — fresh, generous, and made with care.

Yohannes also organized a tour for me, and my guide Moges was outstanding. He did everything to ensure I had the maximum experience and truly understood the history and spirit of Lalibela. Thanks to him, the visit became much deeper and more meaningful.

I highly recommend this place — 10 out of 10. In my opinion, it is the best place to stay in Lalibela. If I come back, I will definitely stay here again.
