Beautiful building, spa is the epitome of basic, hotel atmosphere & rooms needs refinement
Pros:

The bar and main restaurant areas are nice

Cons:

The spa is not a spa - it’s dated and also used as a local leisure centre it seems.
There is no spa atmosphere at all - it’s extremely basic & provides no general spa amenities. The sauna is tiny & the pool area is tired and unkempt.

The valley around the hotel is beautiful but you can’t seem to gain access to go on walks. Therefore you’re just confined to the hotel grounds which is small & it’s a shame.

We got put into a room in the furthest corner of the hotel & was also not very nice, felt like you were in a different hotel. We then asked to move to another room slightly less of a walk hoping it would be nicer. We then did get moved - but felt a shame we had to ask considering the hotel didn’t seem full.

Upon departure it turned out the payment hold on a card had been a debit, an error which the staff tried to blame on us. Which we then had to rectify ourselves.

The main hotel really is nice but needs refining & the spa is really not a spa. It was unenjoyable to be in for longer than 30 minutes. The bar and restaurant have amazing views but the atmosphere is unbalanced.

Wonderful stay, would highly recommend
Pros:

We had a wonderful weekend overnight stay at the hotel - as a mini honeymoon and everything was superb! From the little note and box of chocolates in the room from the staff to congratulate us on our recent marriage, to the massages at the spa, the pool time and the welcoming dinner at their Cloisters restaurant - exactly what we needed to relax and celebrate.

Cons:

Nothing

Great Hotel
Pros:

Fantastic hotel with charm and character. It's a beautiful building and has nice communal lounges and seating areas for pre-dinner drinks.

We loved our Standard Double room on the 3rd floor up in the attic. It was quirky, quiet and had a nice view from the rooftop out towards the countryside.

The breakfast was really good, freshly made to order and tasty.

The Dinner was beautifully presented and cooked.

Cons:

The Spa is very disappointing and does not match the style and sophistication of the manor house.

The Spa has all the standard facilities - steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and pool - but it doesn't match the high quality of the hotel. It's more of a local's pool & gym.

Charming property with some disappointing service issues
Pros:

The property is beautiful, with a charming gothic style throughout the building. Both the room and the restaurant were very nice and well presented. Overall, the hotel has a great atmosphere and a lot of potential.

Cons:

Unfortunately, a few details affected our stay. It was not mentioned anywhere that the SPA is not located inside the hotel but in a separate building about a 3-minute walk away.

One month before arrival I had requested a dinner reservation at the hotel restaurant and asked to add a small candle on the dessert to celebrate my friend’s birthday. When we arrived, the reservation was not in the system, so it had to be made again on the spot. I repeated the request about the candle, but I was told they usually don’t have any and that they could instead write my friend’s name on the plate, which I accepted — however, this was forgotten as well.
During dinner I ordered a glass of wine that was also forgotten, and I had to ask for it again, even though the restaurant was not busy.

At check-in, the receptionist did apologise, but she did not seem genuinely concerned about what had happened, which was disappointing.

Overall, these small issues affected the experience, especially considering the level of the hotel and the expectations that come with it.

Cons:

Spa was in a separate building a fair walk away for someone like me with mobility issues. Breakfast could have been better for the money
