Great little hotel close to all the amenities.
Couldn’t fault it really,
Having to take your boots off and using the slippers inside
The restaurant. I found the eveng meals were a bit on the pricy side and the evening staff could have done better. They did not have to describe each course when it was brought out as it was all on the menu and the reason I made my choices. Also, being served by 3 different people, instead of only one, meant there was no communication and I was questioned about a choice I made which I had already clarified before I made the choice, which then delayed me getting my bill and my having eventually having to ask for it after trying to get attention for it forcabout half an hour, leaving me feeling ignored and taking up a table longer than was necessary. As a single person that meal should not have taken over an hour and a half. The couple next to me gad to rush things at the end as they gadcan activity to try to. We ate course for course at the same time and I was still there over half an hour after they had to hurriedly leave.
Note this review is for Polfarenen as my booking was upgraded from the Vault, both hotels are under the same management. My room was spacious, with lots of hangers and hooks, perfect for winter coats, fleeces etc. I went in winter yet had to turn down the heating as the room was too warm! The bed was comfortable, and amenities including hairdryer were provided. Tea and coffee are included in the room, and if you run out you can wander down to the cosy reception area and help yourself to more.
The staff were pleasant and helpful without being intrusive. Breakfast was standard buffet fare, comprising of Norwegian, Continental and English options. I liked that it was served from 7 - 10am, so you could have a sleep in if you wanted.
Longyearbyen is a small town, so location is less important here. But the hotel is within 100 metres of the supermarket, mall and boutique shops. All tour operators will pick you up and drop you off at the hotel.
Shower pressure was hit and miss, depending on the time of day. Water was always warm though.

Breakfast was excellent. The rooms/bathrooms were perfect.
The only thing I didn’t like was how warm the room was, but that is something I struggle with everywhere I go in most European hotels. I kept my window open the whole stay.

The breakfast was good. The room was spacious. The shower was spacious enough. It was nice to have underfloor heating in the bathroom and the light came on automatically if you enter the bathroom.
We were placed in another hotel as the one I originally booked was closed. The new room was in another building and to get to reception and to eat breakfast, one had to cross the street. The WiFi was non-existent. They offered to move us the next day to another floor but in the same building as the WiFi 'may be better'. I feel they are very much aware of the fact that there is no WiFi on the first floor. Also, as there was no lift for guests, we had to use the service elevator. I feel it was easier for them to inconvenience 2 guests who were not part of a group than the people who were there as part of their New Year package.
got upgraded to a different Svalbard Hotell so I can't really review this one. I did appreciate having the hotel changing all the prearranged tours for me within a really short time frame. they really got a well organized structure when they change the accommodation for you.
Svalbard is a place everyone should visit at least once. A magical place
Magnificent hotel. Best restaurant. Staff were so helpful.
