Pros:

Amazing location to experience and be near a world class, expert level surf spot. Very comfortable beds and welcoming owners and staff. Strong cultural and familial ties to the land. On site dining and chef made our birthday occasion very special for us.

Pros:

Extremely friendly staff, amazingly comfortable bed, room, and bathtub. Cozy tv and game room, reading room/library and kitchen. Overall feeling of privacy, exclusivity and relaxing comfort.

Te Whaanga, relaxing, joy, and peace.
Pros:

The quiet serenity. The breath taking views. The accommodations are top notch. The staff are so lovely. Beautifully curated dinners by chef Yudai and his assistant Hozumi. We didn't use the spa but it is a beautiful space. I wish we had more time to enjoy all that Te Whaanga Retreat has to offer. We especially loved the story of their ancestors being on this land. It was a treat watching the surfers in the mornings.

Cons:

I would NOT change a thing.

Unforgettable Paradise at Te Whaanga Retreat – A True Gem in Raglan!

From the moment we arrived, my partner and I were enveloped in the serene beauty, nestled amidst lush native bush with breathtaking views over the rugged coastline and surf. The retreat’s design perfectly complements Raglan’s wild, untamed spirit, making it an ideal spot for unplugging and reconnecting with nature.

But what truly elevated our stay from great to extraordinary were our incredible hosts, Vicky and Hohua. Their warmth and genuine passion for sharing this magical place shone through in every interaction. They didn’t just provide accommodation; they curated an experience.

Vicky, with her encyclopedic knowledge of local trails, surf spots and stories of their families Māori history that brought the land to life.

Hohua went above and beyond by communicating and arranging our stay from the moment we booked.

Their attention to detail was impeccable and we had the most amazing dinner with their private chief. In a world where hospitality can feel scripted, Vicky and Hohua’s authentic kindness and extra efforts made us feel like family rather than guests.

We left rejuvenated, inspired, and already planning our return.

A massive thank you to Vicky and Hohua for creating such an amazing, transformative experience.

If you’re heading to Raglan, Te Whaanga Retreat is an absolute must – five stars aren’t enough! Highly recommended for couples, solo travelers, surfers, or anyone seeking soul-nourishing bliss.

Great place to stay and amazing hospitality! Would definitely recommend!
Pros:

Loved how peaceful the retreat was and the location was amazing.
The staff and owner were very nice and made us feel at home.
The stay had everything we needed all in one place and it was not required to leave the retreat.
The chef was great and made us meals that suited our dietaries.

Cons:

The description when we booked the location online didn't match the actual rooms.

Exquisite charming ecoretreat. For the lucky few who experience it before it gets discovered…
Pros:

Everything. Beautiful quaint charm, lovely designed lodge, peaceful location, incredible service and hospitality. The onsite chef is devine and the nicest person. The spa massage was one of the best I’ve had. The owner shared about his culture, family, special meaning of the property and even tribal wine. All in all if I could give this property a 20 out of 10 I would!

Cons:

Smallest point - paying with Amex would have been helpful. Otherwise nothing!
