Pros:

The hotel is conveniently located right next to the subway entrance and there are plenty of dining options, cafes, shopping, within walking distance. Our towels were changed and the room was made up daily.
Nanning isn't a tourist city, and there aren't many hotels licensed to host foreigners, so this was pretty much our only option in this area that wasn't extortionately priced.

Cons:

1. When we arrived and showed them the booking on the app, the reception said our reservation was not in the system, and he didn't seem to know what Booking.com even is. He had to call his supervisor who was equally clueless about it. However, in order not to lose face they had to give me a room at the price that was on offer on Booking (my Genius 2 status meant there was a discount I guess). It took a while and was pretty frustrating.
2. The first room they offered us on arrival was incredibly dirty and the toilet was filled with water. When we asked to change the room, they sent us to another, equally dirty one. And I don't mean a bit of dust under the bed - Ieam piles of dust in the corners, dusty floors with footprints, hair in the bathroom, sticky stains on the dresser and couch I wouldn't sit on if you paid me. When we went back to the reception again, I had to explain in detail what I mean by "Can we please have a room that's been recently cleaned?". The room we finally settled for was kind of ok, but I still made sure not to walk barefoot or sit on the dirty sofa.
3. No fridge in the room. A small fridge is a standard even at way cheaper hotels than this one.
4. The whole hotel stinks of cigarettes. Even as a smoker myself I still didn't enjoy it. It's 2025, do better.
5. On our last night, a dear Chinese friend sent a little gift for us to the reception, and the delivery person was instructed to explain that the gift bag was for our room number. When we got back from dinner, the night receptionist had no idea what we were talking about (probably due to lack of communication between the day and night shift staff). We saw a bag at the reception but he said that's not for us, but couldn't explain where it came from who it belonged to. We ended up just taking the bag in the morning when we checked out, because the receptionists who checked us out we're equally clueless about it.
