Trekking with Yakup (host), fulfill my expecattions.
We met orangutans and few other monkeys, food cooked by Yakup and his friend in camp in the middle of jungle was great. Night without electricity and wifi was nice experience.
Also rafting was great experience

Very accessible to village and river.
Hiking experience was good. Value of money.
There are very good spots and cafes nearby.

The lovely couple leaves me with sufficient personal space while availing themselves readily when I needed assistance. Its location opposite the visitor centre makes for easy navigation, pickup convenience, and ease of mind. Great starting point to explore the surrounding.

Exceptional hospitality, guidance, and support from the family made my stay unforgettable. During our animal observations, we explored the jungle in ways no organized tour could offer, while working on a photography project aimed at raising awareness of local species—including the often-overlooked butterflies that play a vital role in maintaining the flora—and promoting sustainable tourism. Thanks to Yakup, I also gained a deep insight into rural life and agriculture beyond Bukit Lawang.

The room and facilities are practical and well-equipped, providing everything needed for a safe and comfortable stay. At the same time, they offer a genuine sense of being close to nature. The mosquito net kept insects out, and the property is located near restaurants serving traditional Indonesian food.

This place inspires something far deeper than journeys—a sense of responsibility for the forest, as it gives you so much in return.

My stay was wonderful. I was staying in a room in front of the river and it was quiet at night. The commodity are pretty basic but for the price it was really good and clean. The host help me out to book an awesome jungle trekk 2days/one night for a very good price, and also transport to my next destination, when I came back. Him and his family were lovely. He also brought me to the store a few times on his motorbike to give me an hand with what I needed, and I appreciate it a lot.

​I couldn't be happier with my choice to stay at Sama Sama Homestay in Bukit Lawang for my first time in Sumatra, Indonesia. The four nights I spent there were filled with genuine warmth and incredibly welcoming hospitality.

Es wurde alles für mich organisiert, die Fahrt vom Flughafen bis nach Bukit Lawang, die tolle Trekking Tour, das Gepäck könnte währenddessen im Zimmer bleiben, die Weiterfahrt nach Berastagi. Man konnte alles fragen. Konnte sogar ein kleines Frühstück bestellen. Sehr nette Besitzer! Vermittlung der besten Guides für die Dschungel Tour!! Sehr zentral gelegen, alles fußläufig erreichbar. Hat alles super geklappt! Das Zimmer einfach, aber ausreichend, es gab einen Balkon mit einer Hängematte zum Entspannen.

The jungle trek they offer and their guide are great!

We hebben bij Sama Sama overnacht omdat we ook via Sama Sama een jungletrekking hadden geboekt. We hebben een geweldige trekking gedaan onder begeleiding van de geweldige lokale gids Irpan. Hij heeft een enorme kennis van de natuur. Yakup is behulpzaam in het vinden van oplossingen: de taxi naar het vliegveld was goed geregeld en het tubben met zijn allen was hilarisch. Gezellig dat de zoon van Yakup ook meeging. Emma bereidt in de ochtend een prima ontbijt. Aan het barretje kan je lekker hangen, koffie drinken en wat kletsen. Omdat het 's nachts warm was en er geen airconditioning aanwezig was, was het ook warm in de slaapkamers. Maar dat wisten we van te voren.
Sama Sama is een fijn onderkomen en je kunt ervan op aan dat Yakup een goede lokale gids regelt voor de jungletrekking.

The owners are very friendly and went out of their way to be accommodating to us. We arranged our three day trek through them and it was really amazing (we had udin, Ari and Bess).

The rooms are simple but have a fan so it doesn't get hot through the night. There's a nice shared area for the two rooms that has a table, hammocks and view of the monkeys in a nearby tree.

It's a close walk to the river and shops/restaurants (1-5 minutes). The family also cooks a very tasty omelette for breakfast too.
