Nice and central
Room and bathroom, airy and large, with proper wardrobe. Semi functional fans. Electric socket near the bed, wardrobe to hang clothes and a fridge Record hard bed, but I like that. Near the beach. When the son was around, communication was ok. Interesting fishing boats and fishermen on the beach north of the hotel.People say Grab doesn't work to or from Cua Lo but it worked for me.
I couldn't get the AC to work and the room was damp, probably just due to the humid weather and sea nearby. No topsheet. I could not find the hotel on Grab or google maps, and hotel staff did not respond to emails via booking.com. It is across the road from the 'Khach Sen Phong Lan' hotel, which is on google maps. Having found it, I waited an hour in reception, shouting out for someone to check me in, eventually, reluctantly waking up the 99 year old grandma in the backroom. My overall rating is for the hotel and reflects the uneven hospitality, as well as the ok room. I would give Cua Lo, as a destination, a rating of zero: completely dead, semi derelict, off season. Hundreds of hotels, all 99% empty or closed, and, for fans of massive cement factories, there's a (British) one dominating the potentially picturesque north bay. Seems they get a busy domestic tourist season May to August, and the rest of the time, the town shuts down and digs up the roads. Good place to practise your Vietnamese, as very little English is spoken. It seems to have zero experience of foreign tourists yet has the full measure of profiteering that you get in resorts: most people I dealt with tried to shamelessly overcharge me, including the hotel owner who wanted twice the Grab price (Grab was150k) to drive me to Vinh station. The few useful, open, shops etc, including a good cafe, are near the vietcombank atm.
The room was super damp, you could smell it and also feel it on the bedding and towels. The beds were extremely hard and the door wouldn't close properly due to water damage. The staff were no where to be seen when we first arrived. The whole city is under big development so it is not a good tourist destination. May have been nice once
Super clean room and bathroom. The room is big with 2 beds. The son of the owner checked me in. He speaks very good English. He parked the bike inside for the night. Checked out with the father. Nice family. Apple maps know the way. Google directed me the wrong way.
Great hotel
