Beautiful location close to Danbulla, Sigirya and next to three parks, from the pool garden we could spot egrets, peacocks, kingfishers and so many other birds and animals. The food was excellent and the spa treatments were some of the best I ever had. But above all, what makes this place truly special is the women who run it. Their kindness and attention to detail is truly exceptional and made our first stay in Sri Lanka unforgettable. Thank you Ishani, Samadhi, Dammika, the resident naturalist and every single one of the staff who looked after us.
All was perfect
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Amba Yalu in Sigiriya. The staff were incredibly attentive and genuinely friendly, making us feel welcome from the very first moment.
Both the breakfast and dinner were outstanding. The Sri Lankan cuisine in particular was exceptional—clearly prepared with great care and attention to detail.
The location is truly breathtaking. The hotel is set right by a lake and features a beautiful open reception area that blends perfectly with the surroundings. The garden is lush, well-maintained, and filled with numerous mango trees, creating a peaceful and unique atmosphere. The pool, located in the middle of this garden, is simply stunning.
We also had a fantastic yoga experience and truly enjoyed the Ayurvedic treatments, which added an extra level of relaxation to our stay.
Our room was very comfortable and pleasant, providing the perfect space to unwind after a day of exploring.
From the hotel, all major sights in the area are easily accessible by car, which makes it a perfect base for exploring Sigiriya.
We had a fantastic time at Amba Yalu and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the region

Service wad excellent
The Ayurvedic massage was too soft. Think they should train their masseurs to be a bit more professional and attentive
- incredibly friendly staff all time long and very personal atmosphere
- very attractively situated for decent experiences around Sigiria
- great spot with kids (4/1 yr old)
- perfect relaxation and activity
- very cool design architecture and cineastic style around the building

The hotel is nicely designed and the room was lovely but there was a problem with mosquitos
Very nice pool area & good massage, but the gym equipment is ancient and the aircon there doesn't work properly
I asked for a vegan afternoon tea and was served a cake with with dairy products. But after this the chefs were pretty good at explaining the options at dinner and breakfast.
The "extras" advertised amount to very little so they are quite misleading!

The location is superb, quietly tucked away in a mango orchard on the edge of the lake. Far away from the road, it’s extremely tranquil. The ladies are all very smiley and the whole place was pristine. The design was cool and quite funky, it’s very stylish, but not at all flash.
Only the terrible coffee and the not very effective blinds on the bedroom windows. The food was good but not superb.
Peaceful & relaxing boutique hotel

What a well managed property! We loved our stay at Amba Yaalu - the staff and management at the property are so kind and made such an effort to make our stay special. A very special shout out to Sachini, Rehani, Shehara, Hansika, Reshani, Champika and all others who went out of their way to make us comfortable. The property is beautiful, its location is amazing and the food was delicious. 10/10 - would highly recommend Amba Yaalu to everyone.

Wonderful experience! Staff is very attentive, clean and well maintained hotel. The surrounding is stunning, it is peaceful and relaxing to wake up to the sound of birds.
Special thank you to both Ishara and Agid, our therapists at the Spa. We highly recommend! Both were very professional and well trained!
Amba Yaalu is an Oasis by Kandalama Lake, not to be missed. My female friend and I found the hotel safe, clean and we felt we could relax here much more than other hotels, because it is women run. No major worries of being stared at by the pool in shorts or swimsuit. No creepy questions from male staff (yes this has happened in top rated hotels in Sri Lanka, and other countries).
For women travellers, we wanted to experience this hotel and the absolute truth is we wish more hotels were women only staffed. The room was beyond what I imagined with a wonderful view of the mango garden and lake and a bathtub on the balcony! We stayed for 2 days and didn’t have time to use the bath but we’ll just have to return. The lobby is quirky and gives a nod to the cinematic history of Sri Lanka and is a peaceful area to sit as you have a clear view and access to the pool and garden. The boutique shop is well stocked, we bought a few presents at reasonable prices- worth it! The garden is a short walk from the lake and you are likely to see elephants in the distance, at the other side of the lake. Who needs a safari tour when they are in your back garden - even just to glimpse these mammals without the fuss of safari trucks, it’s worth a stay here.
All the staff are welcoming and ready to assist. The managers were always onsite and accessible and we enjoyed seeing the women’s uniform of saris but also formal trouser and shirt. All the facilities were clean and lovely designs. The hotel is super new so it’s worth going soon! :) Lastly, the spa was fantastic! I usually do not like massages at hotels as they are not high quality but the staff knew how to find pressure points and use the correct (deep) pressure. No silly light strokes of the back. We got head massage, neck back legs and feet, and I almost fell asleep the treatments were so relaxing.
We highly recommend and hope the owners invest more in this hotel and alike and the women staff. Thank you to all the staff.
Sadly the food and drink options were limited, but we suspect this is due to trailing this new hotel with a women only model. The food is good but could become limiting if staying for more than 3/4 days, we look forward to seeing more options next time. The breakfast wasn’t a buffet, you order from a menu and you can get one of everything. I prefer a buffet but again, I suspect it’s too early for this hotel. But the more people that stay there, I believe the more accommodating it will become. The positives of the hotel far outweigh this personal issue.
The location of the hotel is by the lake so it requires organising transport to and from town/sightseeing, but I think that’s what a lot of people now have organised for their travels around SL, for this reason it’s just a mention but I don’t think it’s a huge restriction for coming to stay at this hotel.
