Pros:

The location was stunning by the river, the staff were friendly and polite and the food was lovely.

Cons:

The cottages themselves, whilst old and charming from a distance, very quickly showed the fact that both they and the immediate area around them were VERY tired and uncared for, a very disappointing first impression. There is no excuse for the shabby appearance of the external flaking paint, plaster falling off the walls, missing light bulbs in external lights, leaves that had obviously not been swept up for weeks, rotten windows which didn't shut properly and handles held on by half the complement of screws, filthy kettle and only enough towels for one. More towels were supplied but only when we requested them, the extractor fan in the bathroom and broken window were reported immediately and we were told that as we were staying for two nights they would be repaired first thing in the morning - but they never were. The exterior handle on the entrance to the restaurant (which also doubles as a fire door) was only held on by two screws and was in danger of falling off. CCTV would have been next to useless, as it was shrouded in cobwebs, even if it did actually work. I've never before been in such a hotel (which has so much potential) and started to wonder when the last safety inspection took place?

Delightful stay on the riverbank.
Pros:

Excellent visit, all staff deserve praise and were very attentive without being intrusive. All the more impressive as they were handling two weddings in two days. Special mention to Heather and Christian who made our stay exceptional with their service. . The position on the river made for a delightful night cap spot.

Cons:

Nothing at all.
