Unfortunately not for us
Pros:

The location was nice, had nice scenery, the staff and owner seemed lovely as well

Cons:

It was too outdated, the room smelled old and stiff, had to flush the toilet a few times just to actually flush, ants were inside, didn’t have any reliable internet or a tv
Overall It didn’t feel comfortable or homey and we ended up leaving before even spending the night there so it was a wasted experience

Stay was amazing and what we needed
Pros:

Stay was amazing, friendliness and all we wanted for a night away. Dinner was amazing, great quality steaks and breaky in the garden was so relaxing.

Pros:

This is a unique place to stay with character. I would have to say that the place is not immaculate in some areas where it should be. Details matter. I think at the moment the price of accomodation and cost of dinner does not match what you get… but it could be if the owners take the thoughts of guests on board. There is room for improvement and it could be quite the attraction to draw people to visit.

Old school charm at its best. Highly recommend!
Pros:

We had a function down the road. This was a great location for this. Old school charm at its best! We stayed in room 1. Spacious main room. Breakfast was fantastic, poached eggs cooked to perfection.

Cons:

Near the train tracks…. But I judged tuned it out.

Avenel is a pretty place to visit and the hotel is a charming old building. The food served at breakfast and dinner is excellently prepared and very good quality with a good choice of wines.

Loved the quiet and unique location and the decor all through the building

There wasn't really anywhere to socialize late in the evening without disturbing other guests.

Nice property. The price was consistent with a 4 star boutique hotel but the experience was unfortunately not
Pros:

Nice location. The room was spacious, comfortable and nicely appointed. Good access to parking.

Cons:

The stay was OK, but at a price of close to $450 AUD for one night it was hard to overlook several small issues. The room was accessible by 3 doors but only 1 could be locked. No coffee facilities available, although tea was provided. Limited to no staff members were on the property until mid-morning. We had to search for a staff member to return the keys at checkout.

Unique and cosy heritage accomodation set in a beautiful garden setting. We had a lovely dinner.
Pros:

The historic building and charming garden is very special. Avenel is beautiful. The resteraunt is great for lunch or dinner. Lovely room with great bed. The outdoor pool is a real feature.

Cons:

There was no breakfast, which was disappointing as a continental bf was mentioned as included in booking info. There was no way to lock one of the room doors which was very unsatisfactory. Although we told staff, they did not help or take it seriously. Seemingly the key was missing? Towels could have been better considering the cost and advertising. The balcony was messy and dusty. The garden was a bit neglected, as was the pool.
