• Convenient Location: Only 12 minutes from La Fortuna and very close to Arenal National Park and other top attractions.
• Property: The grounds are stunning, lush with trees, and full of local wildlife.
• Breakfast: A great variety of options and everything was delicious.
• Room Condition: The room had a noticeable odor, and the curtains and some surfaces didn't feel 100% clean.
• Comfort: The pillows were a bit too large and firm for my liking.

Warning: although nice resort and very friendly staff, the room is not worth the price and the behavior of the management is unbelievable. We booked for 7 days and unfortunately, the weather was exceptionally bad, heavy rain all day long every day, so we decided to leave after four days. We knew about the nonrefundable policy, however we asked the management to find a compromise solution of a partial refund, not to lose all the $833 (=3 nights). The occupation of the hotel could be around 60%, so there would not have been any loss of opportunity for the hotel. They simply said no and kept our $833 for no service provided. This is really not a friendly client approach, be warned before you make a reservation!
We've stayed in several locations in La Fortuna but none of those had properly "hot" springs. You do.
The lunch and dinner at the restaurant was a nice surprise! The three of us sampled much of both menus and found the value, flavor and presentation - all good.
The scrambled eggs were prepared as they should be, not over cooked and chopped like most in Costa Rica.
Bonus points to host José who went beyond.
Orange juice at breakfast was very tasty.

Breakfast could be improved a bit.
The little sausages are not up to the quality of the rest of the fare and every hotel in La Fortuna has them. Bland. Don't be like the others. Be better.
The containers of scrambled eggs and pancakes ran too low late in the serving periods all three mornings we attended.
The pancake recipe is not up to standards as well.
Reconsider the use of any margarine or at least that particular one. It's really poor. It has no taste even distantly like real butter. Kudos for José who did provide real butter on our request.
The hair dryer in our room (210) would run for only a few seconds and shut down. I've had this happen before and it's from restricted air flow. Usually a good cleaning will revive it.

Die Volcano Lodge ist eine gepflegte, sehr gut ausgestattete Anlage mit sehr schöner Bepflanzung, einem Pool am Restaurant, mehreren natürlichen Thermalbecken, einem Restaurant, wo wir reichliches Frühstücks Buffet vorfanden und ein leckeres Dinner genießen konnten. Auch das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.
Die Lage ist geschickt für vielseitige Touren, die uns vermittelt wurden oder wir selbständig durchführen konnten.

Beautiful surroundings and property well cared for, like being in a tropical paradise. Room clean with gorgeous views. Hotel staff pleasant. Edward did a fantastic job with his presentation as well as with the night walk. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about plants and animal. Restaurant staff and food wonderful.
The only thing we would change would be to add air conditioning to the room.
