all the staff, receptionists, cleaners, breakfast staff, night security were all excellent,

Great! We would stay here again.
Pros:

Friendly, attentive staff. Beautiful old building with rooms around a lovely courtyard. Superb breakfast served in the peaceful garden. Good selection of restaurants in walking distance.

Cons:

The room was a little cramped but it was clean and comfortable - fine for a night or two, and the patio and garden are relaxing places to sit.
