This place has potential that is not fulfilled. The staff does not seem to have much interest in the running of the establishment.
The breakfast was served with hesitation and grudgingly. Cedric pulled out dishes one by one, as if he didn't want us to eat anything. Also, the interior was confusing. The breakfast was served in a dark dungeon-like room, instead of a glass-enclosed sunny verandah. The fixtures in the bathroom were cheap and taps hard to close. The furnishing was not particularly interesting. They have missed an opportunity here.
A 1-night stop-over with a difference! Never stayed in a castle before and walking into the courtyard across the stone bridge transports you straight back into the 14th Century! The Dutch owners welcomed me and on the way to my room was told some of the castle's history! I actually had a choice of taking the lift up to my room in the tower or the stairs. My room was clean and in keeping with the surroundings! The lift ended in my room with it's own lockable door! You do hear the lift but I didn't have a problem with it! Going to sleep with the sound of moorhens and ducks was quite relaxing! There is a wonderfull wintergarden which has a breakfast area and lounging area. It was totally relaxing!
All was well!
We were kindly welcomed by one of the staff members. Very friendly, giving information about the neighbourhood and options to eat out etc.
Breakfast was good and varied, the members of the castle team have different foodstyles which makes it pleasant to stay for multiple days. Special requests were answered with pleasure. We also enjoyed dinner in the castle one evening, prepared by the castle team.
In our room we had a nicely decorated bed and sleeping in a tower of a castle is fabulous.
The mosquitoes!!! And the lack of insect-screens. One little window had an insect screen, but the others didn't. Which resulted in having to choose between insects or stale air. With a few investments, the room could be so much better and comfortable. We were baffled by the surprising choices regarding the arrangement of the room. No specific style and quite contradicting atmosphere. A fairytale canopy bed but with cheap ugly pictures on the walls of sportspeople. A room located in a castle, with a bathroom that fits more in a youth hostel. And leaky tabs, a waste of water and a nuisance.
What a beautiful place, the building is fantastic.
The way it has been restored, its location, the decor are all amazing.
An exceptional renovated castle and an exceptional management team who made sure our stay would be memorable. They will accommodate your needs and will give you a tour of the castle with all its quirky displays. We were in room #6, an ADA compliant room, with a spacious bathroom. Wish we could have stayed longer but definitely a place we'll want to go back to.
We loved everything...
Nice place and kind staff
The property and surroundings are truly beautiful. Nestled in the countryside, having the opportunity to stay in a castle overnight in an experience we will never forget! Breakfast prepared by Danny was also a highlight.
Great castle. Bigger than we thought. Rooms are spacious and clean. Short distance to Liege. But most off all, wonderful staff, very friendly and enthousiastic telling about the history of the castle. Highly recommended,
A wonderful rehabilitated castle, in a nice location a bit further in the fields. with its private parking, very convenient for motoriders like was my case and the personnel friendly, polite and ready to answer all questions and facilitate the stay. My appreciation and respect to the ones that initiated and implemented the restoration project for this old castle.
Unforgettable Stay. Everything was special and perfect. Very friendly owner and great breakfast with delicious coffee in a „knight surrounding“. Who loves exceptional atmosphere is in the right place here.
The place itself, mine hosts and the very interesting back story. I thought it was only the Brits who were eccentric/crazy enough to take on a challenge like this! Nice to see the Dutch challenging us!
Keeping flies out!
