The location is great, the gym is well equipped.
The amount of hidden charges was criminal, we go to the lakes 3 times a year hiking and usually stay in the Merewood hotel and we love it. The downside being. lack of facilities. This trip was not a hiking trip so we booked somewhere with facilities. To not be able to use those was a complete rip-off and a huge disappointment, the stay was over priced and I will not be staying again.
Location
Stayed here a few years ago and remembered the position of the hot tub overlooking the lake which was the main Eason why we came back.
However as a resident of the hotel we didn’t have any access to the outside hot tub which was disappointing
Excellent room and facilities, especially the spa that we booked separately. Great views of the lake. Good breakfast with lots of choice.
What we were not aware of was how early the spa, restaurant and afternoon tea sessions need to be booked, i.e. weeks in advance - we were lucky to get a spa cancellation and a table in the bar with a restricted but ok menu
Lovely location
Warm and comfortable. Great food. Good value.
Little things - attention to detail stuff. There was a lovely log fire that had been allowed to burn right down. Someone needs to keep an eye on it. There were very mucky handprints around it on the wall where people had been perhaps cleaning it and put their hand out. Just needed a quick wipe to clear it, but housekeeping wasn't on it. It was like that throughout the stay.
There was a young male staff member who hid in the back corridor on his mobile phone. He was usually there at various times in his shift. Every time we came past, he put it away and pretended he was counting bedding on a trolley. For goodness sake.if you don't want the job mate, there are plenty who do.
Everything. Location to ambleside. Spa facilities. Room. Breakfast and restaurant vibe.
The additional cost to staying guests for outside spa. The morning sunrise option was used by ourselves but it wasnt promoted...we overheard it. Had we not, we wouldn't have done it.
Booked the Spa & afternoon tea - excellent. Spa is really amazing , view across the lakes , hills had snow on them and clear blue skies.. great day to be in the spa. Staff were all friendly & helpful throughout.
Room was nice, clean and tidy. Massive big bed & definitely can't complain of the room being cold.
Breakfast was what you'd expect - nice selection of food & the staff were great and attentive ( although the bacon was rock hard & took some cutting)
Biggest disappointment was Parking Charge...
To be fair I did miss this under "Important information" - so watch out . Parking is charged at £12.00 per car per night for all reservations with the exception of direct bookings. So, if you stay a few days this might add up. Even with this it worked out cheaper going through booking.com than direct.
Drinks were on the high side - although you're in the Lakes, posh hotel, captive audience etc. etc. so to be expected
Beautiful location wonderful staff
Location
Nothing
Breakfast was plentiful and tasty
Breakfast was excellent, and the staff were very friendly especially Emma. She welcomed us with a big smile each morning. Lot's of choice and the view was really nice out over the lake.
Since I last stayed the hotel has introduced a car parking fee, and it's a fight to actually find a car parking spot. The room was noisy, you could clearly hear people talking in the room next door. The access to the Spa is not what it was and the pool has become crowded, and the sauna choice as a normal paying guest is not what it was either. It very much has the feel of the haves and have not's now. Quite disappointing really as me and my wife have loved staying there. We had dinner in the Blue Smoke restaurant and found it overpriced for what you actually get, again slightly disappointing.
Location size of room and view looking out towards the lake.
We had a lake view, however you could hear the traffic in the evening and early morning, my biggest disappointment was the room the room didn't have clothes pegs to hang your outdoor coats which are not suitable for hanging in the wardrobe.
