Cleanness and staff very friendly
Location access to towns
We had a very good experience staying at the Visalam. Food - breakfast, lunch, dinner - was very good. There was no wide buffet spread that you find in a 5-star hotel, but whatever was available was of excellent quality. Each item had that authentic aroma and taste. The staff - the lady at the reception, the staff at the dining area, coffee kiosk and the housekeeping personnel - all of them were very cordial and ever ready to help. Much appreciated!!
The response time was occasionally a little slow. But this small shortcoming is well overcome by the excellent attitude and courteous behaviour.

Maden var i særklasse med veltilberedt, lokalt Chettinad-køkken, og poolområdet i den rolige gårdhave fungerede perfekt til afslapning. Værelserne er rummelige, rene og tro mod ejendommens oprindelige stil.

An exceptional stay and one of the highlights of our trip through India. The property is beautiful, but what really makes Visalam special is the staff – everyone was incredibly kind, attentive and genuinely welcoming.
We highly recommend the tour of the surrounding Chettinad villages with Vanakkam, an amazing guide. He brought the history, architecture, local traditions and crafts to life and helped us truly understand the region.
And the food! Dinner at Visalam was honestly the best meal we’ve had in India so far. Authentic, full of flavour and beautifully prepared.

It would be great if visitors can be given a brief on the history and culture about Karaikudi. We have a village tour arranged but it could be great if the whole history is made into a story

Sl;ow response from reception. Informed reception that i need late checkout and this was informed on the day i checked in. Until morning 10.30 am of my checkout day, there was no information forthcoming from reception. Assuming all was ok, i left the hotel on a trip about 100km away. Upon me checking again one more time i was informed that i had to checkout by 12.30 noon. i then had to rush back
The room was fascinating, situated in the historical heritage house well maintained by a very nice group of staff beautifully!
Especially, the bike ride with Shivan and other offers including tea, breakfast,and meals delighted me a lot. The bike ride in the early morning was a great experience, quiet, trafficless, enjoyable, and cooling.
As for food, I like their amla pickles from the garden, the coconut pancake, and special paniyaram. They are served by a group of caring staff.
Btw they have good book selection at the reception, but I wish that the bilingual book Mansions Palais de Sud l‘Inde from IFP (Textes Robert Dulau; photographies Arno Gisinger) were also there
The room, the location and the overall property was great. Loved the heritage village that it was located in.
I think the food was limited and I am pretty sure much of it was not authentic. Also the fact that for each meal

Property is clean and well maintained
Staff handling customer grievance or request could be improved. Though there were no booking cancellation option provided we were still asked to call and send mail requesting for cancellation giving a false hope misleading. Breakfast was bland and not up-to the mark. There were also confusions with the pool rules.
