Every staff member was exceptionally friendly, respectful and with big smiles. Excellent location just down the road from the magnificent Cathedral.
Apparently one has to request the room to be serviced at Reception. Unfortunately we were not advised, nor was there a card hanging on the door to put the request. It was not a problem as fresh towels etc were available.
It is beautiful and exceptionally full of character . Its location is perfect for Derby centre but a little distant from the railway station
Its decor is a little tired but any improvement should not alter the original character. Some parts of the hotel would benefit from deep cleaning
Great location, room was lovely
The breakfast was very good and I loved the staff's understanding to changing the diet to meet the needs of my Mother and SEND son, The location and architecture is beautiful, and it's in an excellent location in the city centre Derby and easy to get transport and close to local restaurants, and quiet.
would have been nice to have more spacious windows for the facilities of SEND needs was hard to sleep had a fan, but third floor stuffy and hot, the bathroom was stuffy and hot and there was some humidity other than that everything else was splendid
We’ve stayed a few times here when visiting family
Great location, secure safe parking, valve for money and friendly staff.
It’s always the safe needs a bit of an update. Furniture looks tired and dusty marks on carpets and walls, curtains not on tracks properly.
The property was built n a really good location. I minute from cathedral where we attended a concert in the evening
The lift would only go up because the down button was broken, which was inconvenient from the start. The room itself was very dated and looked tired, giving it a rather sad appearance.
The shower had very poor water pressure, with the flow being intermittent. One of the taps controlling the shower and bath also came off completely, and I had to put it back in place myself.
When we arrived, the bath plug was lying on the side of the bath. We chose not to use it, as there was visible hair and grime around the plughole. There were also soap splash marks, built-up dust and dirt in areas that should have been routinely cleaned, such as the skirting boards, along with cobwebs hanging from the ceiling.
On a positive note, the staff were always polite and welcoming, and the original part of the building is absolutely beautiful. It’s a shame that the condition and cleanliness of the rooms don’t reflect the charm of the property.
The beautiful old building is wonderful, the location is great.
Just needs some money spending on it,! It is tired and that is such a shame.
stay here purely for the location , was probably a stunning hotel once - lacks energy now
Lifts always broken to some degree
Cleanliness - questionable at times
Staff, location and building
Very hot in our room
Ambience art nouveau. Reception area nice 😊 Shower great 😌
Needs shower mat cos slippy. No body wash in it
Beautiful looking property - it is over a 100 years old and was formally a bank and police station. There is an impressive marble staircase and beautiful stained glass windows above the stairs.
The location is in a quiet road in the historic Cathedral Quarter, handy for local amenities, including the cathedral itself.
The breakfast was tasty and well presented. The staff in this area were friendly and helpful.
The ‘front of house’ customer service didn’t meet our expectations. Because the hotel looked so grand, I expected much better customer service.
We were originally put in room 20. This was a very small room with concrete and copious pigeon droppings for a view. There were many things we didn’t like about the room. However as we were only staying for one night we decided to put up with it.
However, when we returned to our room two hours later, our room stunk of sewage. We reported it immediately, and were given another room. However, there was no explanation or apology.
There is a tiny bar that serves a limited choice of alcohol and coffee. We came back to the hotel at about 10.15 pm. The bar door was open. Two staff members were in there watching TV and drinking alcohol. They said the bar was closed - this was a Friday night.
The reception is rarely manned. There is a camera and bell to ring. However, to get someone’s attention, you have to ring a mobile number. We had to do this several times - I even called the landline in desperation.
Though front desk is not manned 24/7. Staff were super helpful, warm and polite.
Lovely decor. Fabulous location. Comfy older hotel which has a feeling of grandure.
Good nights sleep in comfy beds. Good sized breakfast. Loved it.
In busier times gone, or maybe its seasonal , the hotel foyer would possibly have been a busier hub for the surrounding restaurant and bar that may also be open.
Fantastic location and characterful building (former police station).
Tired fixtures and fittings. Aircon not working in our room but we didn’t complain as we were only staying one night.
Great location and friendly staff. The bedroom was clean with basic toilettries, tea/coffee and mini fridge. The bed was huge and comfy. Attended an event at Vaillant Live which is a 5 minute walk away. Also only 5 minute walk into town centre. Very grand building. Breakfast was adequate. Did the job for a night. I'd stay here again as the location is brilliant, the room was clean and comfortable and the staff were lovely.
The room was clean and comfortable but other areas not so, the stairs looked grubby, needed hoovering. The reception area looks dingy, smells badly off stale cigarettes, not a great first impression when you walk in. It's a beautiful old building but looking very tired and everywhere needs some serious upgrading and TLC. It could be something special and I'm sure it was back in the day. There are 5/6 free parking spaces on the hotel frontage so it's pot luck if you get one but there is a very safe multi storey at the end of the street 1 min walk away. Breakfast was ok, not much choice but the cooked breakfast was nice.
