Staff breakfast and room
Was brilliant
Very old and characterful
Out in the country
Rather faded around the edges
Looked like it needed a bit more tlc
Unique local feel and beautiful surroundings.
Quite difficult to get there due to the narrow and dated road, also we stayed there during the summer heat wave, it was quite challenging as one small fan per room didn’t help.
Belle chambre
Restauration pas très professionnelle
A lovely building in gorgeous gardens.
We had told the hotel we were arrivi g after 10pm. The Sat Nav suggested road was closed and looked like this had been the case for sometime.
Where the road was closed, the Sat Nav said 500m to the hotel and there were 3 cars parked on the small rural road. It took us a further 30 mins to navigate the small Devon lanes
Why did the hotel not warn us?
Location was very good for the places we wanted to visit. Lovely grounds.
Access to the property was down a narrow badly potholed lane, but that did not spoil our stay.
Location and views were good. Ample parking. Breakfast was good, plenty of options - my wife had salmon I had kippers, should have been served with toast, not a problem in doing our own but shows lack of care. Bed was comfortable and room was big.
Very poor road leading into the hotel, looks like a private road or at least the hotel owners can put pressure on to rebuild. Needs some money spent on the interior too - cleaning the carpets leading to the rooms won't be enough.
Staff was friendly.
Struggling with taking luggage up 3 flights of stairs, the room was hot and the fan was noisy and needs replacing. The food was burnt overcooked and did mention this but nothing was said or done. £30.00 for burnt fish and chips
Paul and Val were charming and thoughtful hosts who made my stay extremely pleasant. The hotel is in a beautiful location with well-kept grounds. Good value for money compared with Exeter town centre accommodation.
The hotel is clearly in need of a refurb. Decor and fixtures are showing their age.
First appearances very positive. Heating in room was off. However, room was hot and stuffy, with limited ventilation from window which had to be covered with blind as night-time illumination of external quad meant room was floodlight led to very sleepless uncomfortable night. Room itself in need of attention as holes in wall by headboard and dirty windows. Organised evening meal for just after 8pm left in in bar where we ordered a light snack of sandwiches in the presence of two members of staff. Along with ourselves there were three other couples waiting to be settled in restaurant. After 50 minutes, we were the only ones left waiting when we were informed our food order had been lost, by which time it was too late for my wife to eat. We were informed it would only take a matter of minutes to prepare, but having waited so long we declined and went to bed hungry. At the much anticipated breakfast, my wife ordered salmon and scrambled egg on toast from the menu. Salmon and egg appeared, and when questioned were informed we had to make our own toast which my wife proceeded to do, by which time the scrambled egg was cold. So, in all conscience we can only award one star.
Location
No lift . Very poor approach roads narrow with many deep potholes. Facilities generally dated.
Mooie locatie, prettig personeel.
The gardens were the best part of the stay.
The food was awful, the interior of the hotel was poor and the rooms were in need of a refurb. The carpet in the corridor to the hotel was disgusting and smelt so bad of dogs. This is a dog friendly hotel and we had dogs but I have never experienced such a bad smell of dogs in a hotel.
