The Hotel is almost hidden in the corner of English Harbour. It has huge grounds spread over 2 main areas - lobby, restaurant and bar on the hill overlooking the harbour and then by the beach are rooms, casual restaurant, water sports, pool and shop. There are tennis courts and a gym in between. The hotel has a old English colonial feel to the entire place which you will either like or hate. The rooms are very comfortable and service levels were generally good. Breakfast was extensive and good quality. The harbour is great for swimming, snorkeling and boating. Nelson's Dockyard is a short complimentary 5 min boat trip away and Falmouth Harbour within 15 mins has a range of restaurants and bars.
The entire facility feels tired and needs bringing into the 21st Century. It is an English Colonial estate and feels like it would be perfect for clientele in the early 1900s. The guests were mostly elderly English who wanted to be private and sit on the balcony reading a book. Low occupancy (May - start of low season) and British wet, cloudy weather didn't help. We can do that at home!! We had a car and saw most of the island , very little of which I would want to repeat. The roads and the infrastructure generally are terrible. The entire island looks a mess. Highlights were other hotels that would have been more appropriate for the visit...if you stayed put in the hotel. We will be unlikely to return to the island as there are much better alternatives in the Caribbean and elsewhere in the world.
The size and colonial decor of the room, the location of the hotel
the breakfast staff could be more attentive to guests. The spa should charge according to their stated room prices and not add on taxes and service in addition after a service in their spa.
Wonderful large rooms in Colonial Antiguan architecture and decor in superb, landscaped gardens and lawns looking out to the beach and sea. We stayed in two types of rooms, the suite and the beach cabana, both fabulous.
a) The breakfast staff spent more time talking amongst themselves than looking after the guests. b) The Spa did not disclose in their price list that they would add 27% taxes and surcharges over and above their listed prices, except in the event if one had the service performed in the comfort of one's room which would be subject to a 20% surcharge. When questioning the increased price compared with the listed price after a spa service, the masseuse mentioned 'it happens all the time and I keep asking the hotel to make it more clear to guests'.
Classic ‘old school’ Caribbean.
Beach Cabanas are shabby in comparison to suites. New beach bar adjacent very noisy. Dinner poor.
Good spacious room. Location convenient to exploring other locations and trying local restaurants. Beach area good.
Food is relatively expensive. Shower wasn’t great, old head that was partially blocked. Breakfasts were very English, no local juices (orange and grapefruit) neither of which grow locally. No local style breakfast except once per week ( not available during our 5 night stay).
The furniture is very old , and not nice. Its very overpriced
Excellent Hotel/Resort . Absolutely amazing . We were treated so well by all staff members . Wesley went above and beyond for us. A true professional and the personality of a star.
All of the meals were amazing . Great location and loved the private beach and pool. I would highly recommend this resort and would stay here again.
Gorgeous suites with private balconies, stunning quiet beach, beachside restaurant with generous breakfast, excellent a la carte lunch and beach bar service until sunset. Incredible team, went the extra mile on every front.
Nothing
Good excellent - location and staff great
Think the Spa was overstated. Very old black sink for hair - two small rooms sparsely catered for. Hardly a Spa of 2024 standards
Location; staff, ambience, style, friendliness
Food was not as good as other similar Caribbean venues. No-one expects/want elaborate cooking in the Caribbean, but this felt like very basic food. Under seasoned and fairly unimaginative. Management should tour other venues and compare. Also - wasn’t clear if policy on beach was to allow all comers to use loungers? Didn’t seem like security/staff paid much attention and even children were allowed (albeit they were very well behaved and quiet!). Management should spend a full day on the beach to observe goings on and get a better system in place as it would help staff manage it better.
Fabulous hotel in a great location with staff that could not be more friendly and accommodating.
Hard to find anything that we did not like.
Small , quiet and exclusive. Wonderful location
