Needs upgrade

Not much really. Maybe a little dated in parts but it felt like a really genuine and authentic pub with rooms.

Generally untidy which didn’t bother us but maybe put items away out of view instead of piling up in a corner.
Shower was warm bit no pressure

My only gripe would be that in our room there was a lot of dust/cobwebs in the room itself and in the en-suite. That’s my only piece if negativity that is very easily sorted.

Twin room booked and surprised to find that we had two queen size doubles. However, once you lay on them, they were the worst bed I have ever tried to sleep on. You could feel the springs coming through. Needless to say, two nights of very little sleep.

The smell its you as you walk into the small bar area, the dirty floors and carpet, the excuses from the Landlord. When looking at Trip Advisor found a message from 2018 where the Landlord was saying that he was closing for 2 weeks in November to update the rooms, which he told us (Sept 2026). Dated and needs shutting down, gutted and start again with a complete overall. Who puts anaglypta paper on the walls in the bathroom instead of ceramic tiles, they did. We were supposed to stay 2 nights, I wouldn't have stayed 1 night if I could have found another B&B at such short notice. They called are room a Deluxe Double, there wasn't anything deluxe about this room. I would have scored this review as a minus 10 if I could.

Shower not so good

The whole place was absolutely filfy and smelt terrible. The carpets were dirty and stained, the bathroom was disgusting. It had polystyrene tile on the wall which was coming off. Mold in shower and under toilet and sink. Bed linen had horrible smell. The view from window looked like a junk yard. Couldn’t even think about having breakfast there as just wanted to get out of there asap.

There wss nothing to dislike.

The whole place was filthy, run down and not fit to be open. " beer garden" as it was called 1 broken bench. Ciggy butt's covered the floor of a tiny weed filled space. Mattress had springs coming through and no mattress cover! Same for another couple staying in the family room, also too uncomfortable to sleep. Breakfast ok. Extremely basic but edible unlike the previous evenings meal ( cooked by someone else) was totally inedible. Good job there was a hungry labrador in the pub to save embarrassment! Another couple fed their burgers to it too! For £80 a night absolutely disgusting and should not even be on booking.coms website

I came to Beamish to visit the Living Museum and thought staying in a traditional pub would add a bit of character. It did — unfortunately, most of it was in the cracks.

Vicky and Deborah behind the bar were lovely and welcoming, but sadly that was the main positive.

Room 2 is large but badly tired and in desperate need of attention. The walls and ceiling are cracked, both beds were uncomfortable, the pillows poor, and the shower room came complete with cobwebs and a blocked shower tray that drained so slowly it risked overflowing.

Then there was the noise.

The room is directly above the bar and TV area, so conversations, television, singing and traffic are all clearly audible.

This was a Sunday night, and I was told the pub would close and empty by 11pm. At 11.40pm, a crowd was still downstairs loudly singing along to the TV. I complained and was assured it would finish by midnight.

It didn’t.

At 1.45am, people were still in the bar and I could clearly hear their conversations. I complained again.

Then, at around 2am, one of the men from the bar knocked on my bedroom door to apologise.

Because after being kept awake until 2am on a Sunday night, what every guest really needs is a personal visit.

I booked two nights. I stayed one.

The Beamish Mary Inn may be old, but old and neglected are not the same thing. The rooms need serious investment, and if you charge people to sleep above a bar, giving them a realistic chance of actually sleeping would be a good start.

Pleasant staff. Dreadful stay.
