Staff all great. Not a fancy pub but very typically Northeast England.
The breakfast was included and served by the pubs landlord. It was delicious.
Very little parking but we got there early and got a spot in front of the pub.
Very friendly and helpful staff, very good grub- food
Nothing.
Location was perfect for the visiting the Beamish Museum. The breakfast was good.
The beds were uncomfortable. Could only access 1 chanel on the TV.
Nothing apart from it being very local to Beamish museum.
It wasn’t very clean, scruffy in most areas. Poor standards throughout the business.
Noisy plumbing from other rooms sounding through our room. Uneven, squeaky bedroom floor.
Unable to get out in the morning, all exits locked.
Tasty breakfast, but no milk on table or egg cups for my boiled egg
Needs major refurb, public area grubby & dirty furnishing badly threadbare
Friendly staff , clean comfortable room, good food at good price
Could do some work on the outside space to make it more attractive
Nothing much. Food was below average, room was average and parking was nigh impossible. Room however was quiet, despite being over a pub, and Debra, the landlady(?) was very pleasant
Grubby headboards, knackered mattresses and a shower door that wouldn't stay closed.
NOTHING. IT WAS DISGUSTING😡🤑
I booked this as a stay over to visit Beamish Museum for a couple of of days on 22nd June. It was described as a DeLuxe double room, when we arrived to check in was told the room was been used, didn’t have an explanation WHY but said we had been upgraded to a larger room (wasn’t a problem ) until we were taken to it. OMG do they actually know what DeLuxe means.firstly a massive crack in the corner of the room, really bad, said subsidence, there were 2 double beds which were not fit to sleep in.The bedding was stained and well washed out,the base of the beds were hard board, cheap mattresses with no protector on one. Dated dirty carpets ,really old cheap furniture, bathroom very dated and small, no towels , for £80 this was disgusting. The pub looked dirty and in need of refurbishment and certainly wouldn’t have eaten in there..
Unfortunately I was unable to photograph the room as my phone was out of charge.
Was also told it’s a short walk to Beamish which was one of the reasons for book, but no way could you walk there in a short time, narrow country roads with no paths……
Traditional unspoilt pub.Friendly staff and good food. Ideally located for visit to Beamish Museum. Rooms ready for refurbishing but nice clean bedding and towels and comfy bed. Good shower.
Aware that private bathroom was directly across the corridor from the bedroom but not ideal fumbling around with keys for both doors. Room a bit noisy above the bar.
Location.
Needs a thorough deep clean Very outdated and run down.
Very convenient for Beamish open air museum
Dining room was very dark. Holes in the wall in the bathroom!
Location on road with unpleasant view.
The place looked shabby from the outside, and this carried on inside.
Carpets were worn and shabby.
Furniture in room was all mismatched.
Bathroom across hallway needed to be refurbished eg grouting was mouldy.
Breakfast was best part of stay. Well cooked and served by friendly cook.
A very disappointing experience which did not match the reviews.
The place needs a huge overhaul. Public areas were very tired looking.
Furnishings were dated and mismatched.
A very homely property with lots of echoes of the former pit village it's situated in.
A great collection of traditional Northern meals alongside the multiplicity of burger combinations. Portions are immense and the home crafted bread is a fabulous touch.
Excellent location to visit Beamish. I enjoy staying in pubs, so this was ideal for me. Good ale choice, excellent menu of food and vibrant atmosphere in the evening. Run by hard working licensees and staff.
I enjoyed the Liver & Bacon and Onion evening meal which was huge, nicely presented, cooked & prepared. Well done the chef. Breakfast was fab too.
Room 3 the bathroom is opposite the bedroom, so a case of leaving the bedroom across a corridor to use a hand basin, toilet or shower. No big deal for me, but some visitors may not like that.
Some area's inside the pub could do with a lick of paint, but its a homely, pleasant, clean and friendly place to stay.
Ideal location for visiting Beamish Museum.Typical pit village country pub,no aires or graces, just down to earth friendly locals..Food was freshly cooked & well worth the wait..Accommodation was basic,a bed for the night & with a delicious full English fry up.
Sadly the place is looking very tired, could do with a good spring clean & a fresh coat of paint. Our double room had a separate private bathroom opposite & was a bit awkward fumbling around for the key to open it,while trying not to wake your sleeping partner…Although this wouldn’t stop us returning in the future.

Gorgeous property, period features, fascinating history!
All the staff were very friendly and the owners couldn't do enough for us.
Nothing.
