The location was fine for our needs. The beds were comfortable enough. Plenty of room in the bathroom and the hot water came through quick enough.
We were allocated room 3 in the grandly named 'Oasthouse Lodge', which was a high-ceiling room with two single beds on the ground floor and a double bed on a wooden mezzanine.
There were two windows approximately 10 feet high with curtains and curtain pulls, however on one window there was only one cord which did not work, and we couldn't reach to close the curtains fully. A third (lower) window had curtains on a metal curtain pole, which fell down as we closed the curtains but thankfully did not injure my wife.
There were no instructions for operating the TV, and we could not work out how to select terrestrial channels. More by luck than judgement we managed to 'piggy-back' on someone else's Netflix and YouTube channels so at least we had some entertainment.
In the bathroom, there was a lot of old soap scum behind the bath taps, which appeared to have not not been cleaned for quite a while. The shower gel container provided was devoid of any labelling so there was no indication as to whether it was for hair and body or just body, nor any listing of ingredients for anyone with sensitive skin.
The shower curtain was old and had (presumably) old soap staining along the bottom foot or so.
The vertical height adjustment rod on the wall holding the shower head was not fully fixed to the wall, and fell off the wall completely. We were able to put it back in place, however the height adjustment would not lock in place and the shower head would only shimmy back down to the lowest point each time.
Although there are several choices of pubs and restaurants for food, the White Lion itself has a very limited menu of pizzas, nachos, wings and wedges.
And finally - we were in a small block of four rooms at the back of the hotel. We were woken three times by very loud guests coming in between 0130 and 0300 (presumably from a wedding or something) with loud conversation outside our door in the hallway accompanied by much slamming of doors.
Great location for work & friendly staff
The room was basic but clean and did what was expected. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was like new and the bedroom had been freshly painted. Tea and coffee with biscuits available. Staff were very helpful and sorted my car parking as it is free if you are staying in the hotel.
Think it was expensive for a basic room and no breakfast available. Bit noisy from lorry at 6 in the morning and cars arriving for the garage at back of premises. Horrible speed humps and do not forget to book your car parking at the bar as you are only allowed 10 minutes before the car park firm fine you which does not give you much time..
the staff were so welcoming and friendly,
giving us their best recommendations of what to see and do in the area as well as the best places to eat. the room was so comfortable and clean and all facilities were outstanding. cant wait to stay here again
Location
Room
Good location in the centre of town. On site parking to the rear is a big bonus. Friendly helpful staff. Clean and tidy, well managed. Great pub, good size, sub divided and cosy creating a good atmosphere.
Lots of room and clean, shower was great. Good location.
Pillows were flat and not comfy. Very expensive considering there was no breakfast included.
The room we stayed in had be newly refurbished. So was really good. They had a clothes rack but unfortunately hadn't left any coat hangers. But that was really the only complaint. The sockets had tripped. We went to the manger who dealt with it straight away. So all good 😊
Located centrally, room was exceptionally clean
Hosts and all bar staff friendly and included me in conversation
The locals were brilliant
All fine
It’s good
Staff very friendly. Great location in the town centre. Room had character
The price. It was very expensive for what you got
Good staff and location.
Very noisey on Saturday night and I believe the rooms are being updated which they needed.
Location
The rooms are tired and need modernisation. A room only price of nearly £150 was not value for money.
Great welcome. Location perfect.
