A fantastic hotel in the very heart of the dales, good food, especially the breakfast. On Wednesday nights there is an open folk night, led by the very Talented Jessie Cane.
Can't find anything to moan about, other than parking seemed to be a little limited, but that can only be expected with such a popular hotel
Fantastic ambiance - the pub really felt like a lovely oldy worldy pub - lots of lovely old features. Exceptional staff that made us feel really welcome and were able to help with any queries we had. Quiet room with a beautiful view and all the amenities we required (my husband absolutely loved the huge TV and the crazy number of channels to choose from!). Plenty of parking. Both dinner and breakfast were very good indeed, good honest pub food, tasty and very large portions - excellent value for money. Very small bedroom but fantastic views out the back.
The shower, toilet and basin were spotless, as were the bedlinen and towels but the rest of the bathroom needed a clean as there were some really grubby corners in the bathroom, particularly behind the bathroom door and around the shower sealant which you can't see unless you are in the bathroom with the door closed. This prevented us from scoring it a 10/10. The toilet seat slipped badly, no doubt because the bin had been placed between the wall and the toilet seat - so we moved the bin. We would definitely stay again (and we will!!) but would ask them to check the bathroom cleanliness first.
Excellent breakfast choice. Room was larger than expected and well decorated. staff were friendly.
Loved the old bars.
Bathroom - two things. No shelf above sink to put toiletries. The shower base was slippery and could do with a mat. This is important as an injury from a fall could lead to a potential case against the owners.
Parking was chaotic at times.
Check in 4pm check out 10am
Lovely old character Inn . Staff were very friendly , good banter with the Australian barman and Shetlander chef ( sorry guys couldn’t resist ) . Great food . Lots to see around the area , great for motorcycling as some great passes and biker’s favourite the Tan Hill Inn close by ,
Nothing
The location was great, the room was clean and the bed comfy. The breakfast was delicious and catered for a wide range of tastes. We had an evening meal which was very good value and delicious.
The bedroom was too hot! We discovered at 3 in the morning that the heating was on, let alone the duvet being of a high tog rating. We did not sleep very well at all, as despite the windows being open, the room did not cool after we turned off the radiator.
It might being sold as rustic charm but bar and breakfast rooms were grubby.
Wonderful Inn with a fantastic pub. We loved the area, and appreciated the space in our family room. We were traveling with 2 adults and 2 teenage children, and had a room with a queen bed and bunk beds. The room felt newly remodeled. The highlight for us was the pub - a wonderful dinner and breakfast there. So much charm and character.
Not related to the room, but the property also serves as the entrance for a short hike to a nice waterfall. Oddly, the trail is only open for a limited time each day, and we were disappointed to find it had closed by the time we arrived.
Very nice mixture of old & new
Very poor wifi - much needed for walking apps, but and very helpful staff to get that sorted. However a place like this should have it set as a standard 🙌🏻
Pillows…4 humongous bed pillows, which do not suit most bodies…please have 2 slimmer to choose from.
Spacious & restaurant food
The room - a suite- had comfy sofa and kettle/coffee etc which was great but no small tables to put your drinks on when relaxing.
Local people were allowed to vape in the bar restaurant area and no staff tried to stop them.
You don’t have to go anywhere else anymore, breakfast, dinner, drinks all in one place with a great, ancient atmosphere. Rooms are comfortable and quite modern !
Great location. Friendly staff. Good food and a good breakfast. Treated myself to one of their ‘Suites’ for my 5 night stay.
Much bigger than I’d imagined. Very busy with residents and visitors. Well known. PARKING IS POOR. They share their carpark with Hardraw Force - first come first served. The Suite was luxurious looking and comfortable BUT I had no WIFI for 3 days despite reporting this on my first evening. My room wasn’t ’refreshed’ one day so I had no water, tea bags or biscuits. The first and only time I took a bath in the luxurious free standing bath (there’s a large shower too) it leaked and caused a flood in the downstairs bar! My stay was during the recent heatwave (most unusual for Yorkshire!) but despite this I could not turn off the radiator in the bathroom. The one window had a broken sash so I had to wedge it permanently open with a towel! All unacceptable when paying ‘top dollar’
The staff are all lovely and work so hard but I was left with the clear impression there are not enough of them for when it’s at full occupancy.
The room was spacious and comfortable and although it was super hot outside, the stone walls of the building kept it cool inside. Beautiful view from the rear of the building. There's a fridge in the room and tea & coffee facilities too. Good smart TV which is hardwired so worked very well. Local country Pub food as expected large portions. Car park at the rear of the pub if you arrive early.
The WiFi did not work at all and the phone signal is really poor in this location too (not great when travelling for work!) (coffee was horrendous in the room but did not sample at breakfast) Tea was perfect and the room was stocked with bottled water. Breakfast first sitting is at 08:00 am so a bit late for people off to work but fine for holidays. Parking fills up fast but there's space on the lane
Location, food, room, live music, company, staff, beer all excellent
Nothing really, even the weather was good.
Planning to visit again
Super location and large well appointed rooms
Location
Breakfast wonderful and generous. We had to request less second day. Dinner good choice for my husband. Pleased chef catered for my various dietary needs. Went above and beyond.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Interesting guests from all over uk and europe. Quiet village in glorious scenery.
Large room with comfy beds.
Can't think of anything
Location, superb old pub, fantastic luxury room (23)
Long wait for breakfast.
