Beautiful hotel in line with the quality of other Elgin hotels I visited .
Pros:

Beautiful hotel where prestige is felt at every corner. Still staff is very approachable and caring. It feels like you are in good hands.

My feel to scrub everything in site. The shower that you had to do acrobatics to get under the water. It was easier to have a mandi.

Pros:

The hotel has a old world charm that is very endearing. It felt like a part of our history comes alive as we walk the stairs and corridors. It is very relaxing to sit in the verandah and enjoy a cup of tea. The breakfast was very good and we enjoyed it. Staff is very helpful and courteous.

Cons:

The place needs upkeep. Would be great if it was painted inside to keep the place clean and shining. Also the towel’s are worn out. We had to ask for better towels.

Great period charm but pick your room carefully.
Pros:

Full of Colonial charm and has seen much history reflected in the furnishings and pictures on the walls. A lot of attractive uncrowded public areas (even with a full hotel) make up for some room short-comings. Great breakfast

Cons:

Rooms are fairly dark, furnishings, while period , have seen better days. Bathrooms work, but leave much to be desired. We had 2 stays. The first in the a deluxe double which was acceptable. The second a standard double which I could not recommend. The standard doubles are on the ground floor, open directly into the dining room (lack of privacy and noisy at times)and have no windows .

Gute Lage. Viele Sehenswürdigkeiten können zu Fuss erreicht werden. Eine kleine Oase im Trubel dieser Stadt. Geeignet sich auch einmal etwas zurückzuziehen und sich vom Lärm der Stadt zu erholen. Museale Arthmosphäre, muss man mögen. Etwas abgelebt, aber das gehört wohl zu diesem Hotel. Frühstück super und Personal sehr nett.

Cons:

Mein Zimmer war direkt neben dem Restaurant/der Lobby. Daher etwas laut. Aber ab ca. 23.00h war Ruhe.

Comfortable, historic location with character.
Pros:

There is a lot of history associated with the place. The room was comfortable and had a lot of character.

Cons:

There were many good photos, but some of the dates on the photos were obviously wrong, like the photo that was dated "1809". There were no photographs that early. That is just one example.
