I stayed at The Hive Beach Hotel for 2 nights in Hulhumalé.
During my stay, my surfboard travel bag was stored overnight by the hotel. When I retrieved it the following morning at checkout, I discovered a large cut through 3 layers of the bag’s protective foam. The damage was not present when I arrived at the hotel, as I had inspected the bag after collecting it from Malé Airport and handled it carefully myself during shuttle transfer.
I raised this immediately at checkout with front desk staff (a woman named Blessing). She acknowledged that the damage may have occurred in the storage area, as it is very small and not suitable for storing large board bags (despite me having confirmed beforehand that storage was possible). I also noted that another guest, who arrived on a different day, experienced a very similar cut to her board bag while stored at the hotel.
Separately, I also experienced issues with the room condition. The window did not fully close properly, leaving a small gap even when shut due to a broken handle mechanism. In addition, I noticed a used toothbrush left on the window ledge near the shower area at check-in, which suggested the room had not been fully cleared or properly cleaned.
The surfboard bag is now unusable for its intended purpose and had to be replaced at a cost of AUD $559.
I contacted the hotel afterwards to try to resolve the matter directly, but they declined all responsibility despite the evidence provided.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend this hotel, particularly for travellers carrying sports equipment or expecting basic room maintenance standards.
Nice hotel next to the beach. Vicinity to a good number of cafes and restaurants. The city is quite walkable so it's really pleasant.
View from the roof was nice.
Typical Hulhumale Hotel, but not worth the price. My room was fine, although quite small, but colleagues room was really small and stinky. Lots of mosquitoes in the room.

The room was very small and a bit smelly. The shower floods the whole bathroom. Once arrived at the Airport we were supposed to wait for 20-30minutes for our ride (communicated the night before). Had to take a taxi which was reimbursed but it was not clear immediately.

They cleaned my room everyday with fresh bedding and towels, provided water daily, free breakfast, coffee, tea. The staff was very kind and helpful and always meeting our needs, including beach towels. The room came with all the things one needs, iron, ironing board, hairdryer, shower gel and shampoo.

Close to the airport and free shuttle service included - ideal for a one night stay but I think that’s it. The room had everything you needed and it was close by to the beach, restaurants cafes etc.
I thought the property was very expensive for what you get and did feel the cleanliness could be improved a little, just noticed a few stains, hairs etc in the room and felt it needed a clean to freshen it up. It was also a very small room and very noisy. I did find the staff really pleasant though and it was fine for a one night stay if you are getting in late.
