The surroundings and location are great, the staff were nice too.
The tours they offer were not the most reliable and communication could have been better, especially when it comes to cancelling the sunrise hike last minute.
We really enjoyed the stay overall though.
Wish I could go back! Beautiful location, right on the beach, clean and tidy!
Unpretentious, rustic ‘summer camp’ vibe; authentic, community-owned property, loved manager Tailo. Great hike to the peak (requires sturdy footwear with good grippy sole) for a fabulous view. Good snorkelling off the beach.
Unreliable (and not potable) water, limited electricity and little to no internet (be prepared for digital detox); bures in need of a little love, due to property maintenance suffering greatly as a result of pandemic.
All meals were well prepared and served, enough with no waste. Local materials and traditionally cooked. Good vibe for social connection.
limited water, electricity and Wi-Fi, feel a bit inconvenient. Room is old and not bright enough. less free activities provided as expected.
This was one of my favourite places I’ve ever stayed. No electricity or wifi most of the day so you feel cut off and so relaxed, I didn’t want it to end! The beach is beautiful and all the staff are so lovely they treat you like family. We enjoyed drinking Kava with the boys, the culture talk and the hike to the view point as well as the wonderful school visit and attending church, such an amazing experience. It’s in such an stunning setting and our bure view was overlooking the sea, couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Oh and the food was always so tasty and plentiful! Hope to return some day

Having to leave :(
Stunning location and very friendly hosts- treated us like family. We had a lovely bure with a ceiling fan and mosquito net. Really good value . Food was plentiful . Lots of activities if you wanted to keep busy
Our stay at Waya Lailai Eco Resort on Wayasewa Island was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel like family. Their warmth, kindness, and genuine love for their island shone through in everything they did.
The buffet meals were fantastic — fresh, delicious, and plentiful. We were never hungry, and every meal felt like it was prepared with care and heart.
One of the absolute highlights of our trip was the fishing adventure with Saki. He took our group out for an incredible day on the water, stopping at a beautiful island for lunch where he cooked some of the fish that had been caught along with a delicious barbecue feast. To top it all off, they caught a massive barracuda, which was brought back to the village for everyone to share. It was such a special experience and a wonderful example of the community spirit at Waya Lailai.
Some members of our group also completed the morning hike. They said it was physically demanding, but absolutely worth it for the breathtaking views and overall experience — and they would do it again in a heartbeat.
We had hoped to visit another island to watch a netball game where some of the staff members’ family were playing, but unfortunately we missed out. Instead, Melea took my daughter and me on a medicine walk around the resort, teaching us about the healing and health benefits of local plants. It was fascinating, personal, and something we will always remember.
The biggest sign of how special this place is? My son did not want to leave. We are already planning another trip so we can bring more of our family to experience the magic of Waya Lailai.
Thank you all so much for your hospitality, your stories, and the love and pride you share for your island and culture. Waya Lailai will always hold a very special place in our hearts. Emma, Andrew, Amber, Edward, Oscar and Jack.
We didn’t like having to leave but plan to come back ASAP!
The staff were friendly and always willing to help.
The food offered a good variety and was consistently tasty.
Electricity in the room was available for more than just a few hours, which made the stay more comfortable.
A fan was provided, and each bed was equipped with a mosquito net.
The room was a bit dated, but it was comfortable nonetheless.
What a lovely place, loads of space, the bites were spacious. Thankfully not a resort, Just a place to kick-back and do nothing. Lovely hammocks on the beach.
The food was ok
The room had no light,we told the staff, and nothing has been done. The shower was broken + no hot water (sometimes no pressure too)
The windows were not in tact. We had creatures fly in & out of the room.
They do not write it up front - but there is no electricity for the whole day.
We will not go back there
A magnificent island, just like its inhabitants, with a very warm and family-friendly atmosphere; you feel right at home. The resort staff are exceptional, kind, and offer many activities!
Thank you for this wonderful, secluded experience… I will be back 🥹
Not much Wi-Fi during the day
We had an amazing stay at Waya Lailai Eco Haven. The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and approachable, and we really appreciated the authentic cultural experiences like the kava ceremony and church service. The food was excellent throughout the day. Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner were always fresh and delicious.
The whole atmosphere felt very authentic and heartfelt. Our highlights were the mountain hike with beautiful views, snorkeling in the clear water, and relaxing in the hammocks. A perfect place to experience true Fijian hospitality. Highly recommended!
Everything was very relaxed and simple, which is part of the authentic island experience. The limited phone signal actually turned out to be a big plus for us, as it helped us fully disconnect and enjoy the peaceful island atmosphere. Nothing major to complain about.
The location was great with good snorkeling right out front. The staff was amazing and we absolutely loved all the people who worked there and how they made us feel like family.
The ocean front bures had huge trees in front of them so we had actually had zero view of the ocean.
Location is excellent, a short walk to a hill that overlooks all the islands and a beautiful beach. Local villages, fishing spots and reefs with sharks are all very close so there’s lots to do. The food and hospitality it amazing, 3 full meals + afternoon tea and evening Kava are included. Evening activities like camp fires and cultural lessons are included too. It’s also great how this resort is locally owned and operated and provides a great benefit to locals on the island.
The stay was perfect for me but it’s not perfect for everyone. The rooms are basic with no A/C, no hot water or wifi in the rooms (only in the common areas.) electricity is not always on. However this is an eco resort and this is mainly a deliberate choice to keep rooms basic and encourage people to enjoy the beautiful island. But if you are planning on staying in your room on your phone all day this is not the place for you.
Lovely welcome by musicians as our connecting boat arrived on the beach
Nice beachfront accommodation
Good beach
Fantastic buffet food (the best of all 3 islands we visited)
Great church service on Sunday
Lacked the Robinson Crusoe experience of the smaller homestays
Not enough hammocks. The staff would grab them for themselves.
Not ideal for swimming as beach is exposed to choppy waves & wind
The coral reef off the beach and across the channel. Rooms are tidy and comfortable, although very simple and could have been cleaner. The hike up the island peak is worth the effort - amazing views!
The staff wasn’t always transparent around activities and extras’ prices (my laundry initially costed 20FJD and I later got charged 30FJD).
