To begin with, there is no full-time staff on site. If you arrive late, it can be quite stressful: the gate is kept locked at night, there's no watchman, no doorbell, and no reception (onsite staff goes away at 5pm). Upon check-in, we were assigned the front room, which felt quite underwhelming. It had very little natural light, no desk or functional workspace, stools for side tables, and an extremely small and uncomfortable mattress with no headboard. The bathroom, in particular, was terrible. It had no separation between the sink, toilet, and shower—so the entire space gets wet when you shower--and there was no room to even place basic toiletries like a toothbrush. To make matters worse, there was a persistent odor due to drainage issues. When we raised this concern, the staff kindly offered to light a candle and treated us to dinner at their restaurant, which we appreciated—but it didn’t resolve the underlying problem. The most significant issue, however, was the lack of basic amenities. When my partner fell ill during our stay, there was no access to something as simple as a kettle or a thermometer. When we asked, the staff on the property didn't make any effort to help us either. While the property does have some appeal—the aesthetic of the common areas, the food and the pool are quite nice—the rooms themselves are below basic standards, and the overall level of amenities is seriously lacking for this price point.
Superbe expérience que de séjourner chez the kip. Le lieu est sublime et décoré avec beaucoup de goût, la nourriture est absolument délicieuse, très chouette ambiance. Je recommande vraiment
Chambre un peu petite
The whole property is beautiful and the staff attentive to your every need. The food is delicious and lots to choose from
it was a beautiful setting for our first stay in Sri Lanka - so peaceful and very welcoming staff . We loved the breakfast and the evening menu was also delicious - pool area so relaxing .
Nothing - just the bathroom was a little bit smelly
Heel fijn verblijf gehad. Vooral het ontbijt was erg goed. Het huisje was comfortabel met een fijne buitendouche. Het personeel was erg gastvrij. Ik zou zeker terugkomen.
The staff were incredible. The room was immaculate. Very comfortable.
Everything was great, the location a tiny bit far from town but honestly the food, the room, the people, everything was amazing. Would have loved some Sri Lankan food on the menu.
Peaceful & tranquil in the daytime. The shop has some lovely bits and the pool area is nice to relax.
Our room faced the restaurant, was noisy until late at night and we had to ask the staff to be quiet twice. Can’t open any curtains as you’re facing the bar area and the guests and staff constantly walk by your windows for the toilets which you could smell inside the room. On our first day there were not enough loungers by the pool and they had also run out of pool towels so it’s very expensive to not use the facilities. We spoke to the owners wife & the manager, both were lovely and understood our issues and offered a refund but then the owner changed his mind and only refunded half what was agreed and was not so friendly and ignored our challenge on this.
They have the basis of an incredible Bali-esque experience here but the finishing touches were not worth the high prices.
A stay at Kip Ahangama is an immersion into the art of slow living. From the moment you arrive, everything invites you to exhale and truly be present. The aesthetics are beautifully understated, calm, intentional, and deeply connected to the surroundings; creating a space that feels both refined and grounded.
What truly sets Kip apart is the extraordinary attention to detail. Each gesture feels thoughtful and personal, from preparing the bedroom to the perfect temperature before nightfall to the subtle rhythms of the day that encourage rest and ease. It’s luxury without excess, comfort expressed through care.
The use of local materials is especially inspiring. The wooden furniture, tactile textures, and bed linens feel natural and authentic, adding warmth and a sense of place that can’t be replicated. Everything is curated with purpose, honoring Sri Lankan craftsmanship while maintaining a timeless, modern feel.
Kip Ahangama isn’t just a place to stay, it’s a feeling. A reminder of how beautiful life becomes when it’s slowed down, softened, and designed with intention. I left feeling inspired, and deeply appreciative of the quiet excellence woven into every detail.
