The overall upkeep of the building, including the charming downstairs cafes, restaurant, and bars, is impeccable. Our room was fantastic and featured a large, comfortable bed, a generous selection of TV channels, and warm, inviting lighting that created a truly cozy atmosphere (I can't stress enough how important warm lighting is to a hotel room!). The well appointed bathroom with excellent water pressure and the helpful staff contributed to a luxurious feel. Having easy balcony access was also a delightful way for us to relax and take in the view in the evenings.
Sadly the parking was a little bit confusing and caused a little bit of stress. We needed to book a place with good and secure parking as we were travelling in a ute with things in the back. Unfortunately due to space the Astra only has 5 parks and it's first in first serve. It appears the staff made sure a spot was available for us once we checked in which was much appreciated. At the end of the day we loved everything else so much we had no regrets :-).
Housekeeping: Mel, our house keeper, checked on us and looked after our every need, thank you.
The carpets need an up-grade.
The room was magnificent and the balcony a very relaxing spot. Service was fantastic especially getting us a much needed coffee on check in.
Incredible people and awesome vibe
Nothing
Stunning building, restaurant service and staff
Shower.
Authentic but needed some sprucing up.
Comfortable and clean. The balcony was not private as I had expected Good position.
Not their fault but the hoons revving their cars and driving up and down the street until midnight and later was very annoying
The Astra is very conveniently located (although we arrived by air, we departed by train). The hospitality was exceptional. We enjoyed meals in the restaurant, the cafe and had delicious pizza from the pizza restaurant. We also had drinks in the bar while. We even had one lunch on the balcony outside our room.
A real highlight was the friendly and helpful team at The Astra - from the restaurant manager who helped us with our bags on arrival, to the charming person in the bar who remembered our order from 2 days earlier (and apologised when the gin was different!) to the housekeeping person who was always friendly and helpful (and who did a great job).
The team at The Astra are great.
Central location ..
Variety, bars, eatery, coffee shop, quiet spaces ..
Centre of town, great location to pubs and clubs
Very noisy rooms from traffic, live music downstairs played until 1130 and the shower was the worst I've had when travelling. Basically a dribble.
Beautiful art deco fit-out
Food options were good if you were actually staying in the hotel and not 2.1 kms away.
Can I start by saying I don’t usually write a bad review as I always give them the opportunity to make amends.
We booked this cottage as at the time I booked it was advertised as a 2 bedroom cottage that slept 4 people. No where in the add did it say that the cottage was 2.1 kms from the hotel a 30 minute walk. The advertising said 300 metres from the train station. This was perfect for us as we were arriving by train at 7pm in the evening with no car and we wanted to stay in town be able to eat in town etc. I had communicated this to the hotel at the time of the booking. After arriving at the hotel and finally finding someone to check us in we were advised about where our accomodation actually was and then given directions to walk in pitch dark with suitcases etc. Hence to say after getting halfway then we then turned back to try and find a taxi in Broken Hill at that time of night (not and easy option in a country town).:When finally arriving at the property it was in poor condition maintenance wise and very run down and not particularly clean and also up for sale.
Whilst the staff back at the hotel the next day tried to smooth it over, they really didn’t understand the errors of their ways in associating this accomodation with their hotel. There was no other option for us as it was school holidays and the rooms in the hotel were booked out, although they did have a vacant room on the last night that we were able to move to and they offered us a couple of drinks at the bar.
We believe to this day the advertising still does not clearly state this accomodation is so far away and is not part of the hotel.
Large house and comfortable
It was a long way from town and the hotel - an Uber away
The place was up for sale
Breakfast was average at best
No parking. Got wrong order at dinner both nights. At breakfast got the wrong order and manager constantly abused staff. The venue is old, decrepit and overpriced.
Friendly and obliging management and staff
Breakfast was absent
