Web of Life Resort Wasgamuwa

Locatie: Wasgamuwa en Web of Life liggen van de gebaande paden in Sri Lanka. Het laatste stukje pad is een hobbelig deel maar ook een normale auto kan dit aan. Je wordt beloond wanneer je de poort door rijdt.

Faciliteiten: het zwembad is groot en de temperatuur van het water perfect. Het water is schoon. Er zijn voldoende ligbedden en faciliteiten. Wij hadden het zwembad voor onszelf. Er is een groot restaurant en een grote tuin. Er is informatie over de flora en fauna beschikbaar.

Kamers: De kamers zijn netjes en schoon. De bedden liggen uitstekend. De airconditioning zorgt voor een aangename temperatuur. Boven op je huisje is een vogel spot plek die je via een trap kunt bereiken. Op je veranda staat een neerplof bank. Vanaf je terras kijk je over het rijstveld en de vogelbadjes. 's Ochtends komen de gevederde vrienden een eekhoorns langs.

Omgeving: Een meer, een heuvel die je kunt beklimmen om te genieten van het uitzicht, het nationaal park Wasgamuwa om de hoek en in de omgeving plekken waar olifanten in het wild rondlopen, veel vogels en allerlei kleine dieren voorkomen. Iets verderop zit een grote waterval die ook bezocht kan worden.

Staf: Service en kennis. De naturalist, de tracker, de hotel manager, de kok, de hulpen. een woord: top!

Eten: Spectaculair ontbijt en geweldig avondeten. Sfeer is van belang en er wordt geluisterd naar je wensen. Kinderen worden verwend.

Safari? Nee, natuurbeleving: Web of Life biedt geen safari aan maar beleving. Je krijgt bij hun excursies een chauffeur, een tracker en een naturalist mee. Er is kennis over gedrag, er is respect voor de natuur, je observeert en leert. Dit is natuurbeleving zoals het hoort te zijn. Wasgamuwa is bovendien een park waar je niet over de safari jeeps struikelt en rustig zelf naar tientallen olifanten kunt kijken. Ja de sloth bear en het luipaard zijn er ook, maar deze zijn zeer schuw!

Dès notre arrivée, Errol et Sandy nous ont accueillis et racontés leur histoire sur la réserve et leurs recherches pour la préserver. Ça n’est pas seulement un hôtel, c’est une immersion dans leur quotidien et leur amour pour la nature et les animaux (il faut au moins rester 2 nuits)
Nous sommes partis avec eux en Safari, pour ma part c’était mon premier et je pense que je ne pouvais pas rêver mieux que leur compagnie !

Je recommande vivement cette expérience à tous ceux qui souhaitent déconnecter dans la nature.

I wish I could give more Stars. What a fantastic place this is. Nothing was to much. The food was really delicious and we felt so welcome. This is dat ooit the best place we stayed in Sri Lanka.
You can also book the safari for the wildpark with them. Sandy came with us and we enjoyed every minute of it.
In the morning they took us to the mountain to see the birds in the area.

Simply WOW! What an experience.

We were just looking for an overnight stay close to Wasgamuwa - and got so much more!

This is a truly educational and inspirational place! Errol & Sandy are fantastic and so passionate.

The premis of the Web of Life is all about preserving & respecting the environment, our ecosystem and supporting the local community.

A few hints & tips / things to be aware of -

1. This is a hotel, secondarily to its purpose of conservation - extremely comfortable, great pool and very well looked after, but you are very close to the wildlife!

2. If you want to visit Wasgamuwa National Pafk, do it with Errol & Sandy - they are experts in the area and can literally smell & hear the animals before you see them! Any other commercial tour will be lacking in comparison.

3. You will get Errol’s WhatsApp number when you book accommodation & start planning with him directly. We nearly missed out as we had booked an early morning tour, independently, but the guys ensured we didn’t miss out & supported us in visiting at prime time - late afternoon etc.

4. The food is wonderful - but again, not hotel a la carte choices - cooked fresh, and delicious including one of the best Sri Lankan curries we ate all trip.

This really was a highlight of the two week holiday, discovered through luck!

Have never stayed somewhere where the moment you arrived you felt like friends! Errol and Sandi were so welcoming and friendly. A wealth of knowledge on wildlife, and what they’re doing here is incredible, both for the wildlife and the people. The location is stunning, and I don’t think l will ever swim in a pool so idyllic ever again.

Very environmentally friendly which we loved , staffs very very professional and mostly they do lots of work with the local community.

A true gem of a place to stay and wish we had stayed longer. The wonderful staff truly make this an experience to savor whilst the owner’s passion for his project is at the heart of everything at Web of Life. The meals we enjoyed were exceptional whilst the facilities left nothing to be asked for. Special thanks to Saratha and Sandy both of whom went above and beyond to make our short stay truly memorable. Breakfast and lunch are included in the price and the evening meal is very good value as is the safari drive organised by the resort. If you like your bird watching then this place is unrivaled.

This place is amazing! You can see how much love Errol has put into this place and the love he and the staff have for nature. We enjoyed 2 nights at the property and were treated like family right away. We did a safari in the afternoon to Wasgamuwa and saw a big family of elephants. Errol also knows how to cook and made us some delicious vegan meals. Come to this place if you love animals, tranquility and learning from the staff as they are super knowledgeable! A true heaven and not your average tourist hotel! You are surrounded by scientist who also help out the local community and really contribute greatly to the villages and animal conservation! Thanks again for the amazing stay!

All the staff were fantastic throughout our stay. Erol and Sandi were particularly brilliant with their knowledge of the wildlife and with their engagement with the local community. The work they are doing is aspirational!

Web of Life is a very special place. A science research base available to stay at for wildlife enthusiasts. The birdsong and views are stunning and Sanda and then team were exceptional and helpful guiding us on walks and explaining the rich flora and fauna to us. Breakfast and dinner were of a high standard. Highly recommended. Two nights was not enough.

We absolutely loved staying here. Errol and his staff were so incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the local wildlife. This is definitely a place to stay if you are interested in conservation, bird life and natural habitats. We booked a safari to Wasgamuwa National Park through Web of Life, and had the most fantastic time. Errol, Saratha, and Sandy accompanied us on the trip, and were fantastic guides.
We had a beautiful dinner and breakfast all prepared using ingredients from the local area.
Even though it was only a short stay, we had the best time and admire everything Errol and his team are doing for the local environment and community.

At Web of Life, we had the most wonderful time!
The resort is situated in an incredible spot, surrounded by nature, with a stunning view of a lake, and close to a hill offering a 360-degree view of the Wasgamuwa National Park and the Knuckles Mountain area.
We stayed there for three nights and saw more wildlife than ever before: a huge variety of birds right outside our room, wild elephants just 10 minutes away, as well as peacocks, wild hens, and squirrels roaming through the resort.

What we especially appreciated was the staff’s extensive knowledge of nature and their enthusiasm for protecting wildlife. Everyone was so warm-hearted and generous, and the food was absolutely delicious!

We would love to visit again, perhaps for a longer trip next time!

The marginally less than 24 hour stay at the web of life resort was an engagement with some people committed to the landscape and community of this exceptionally special part of Sri Lanka. The meals provided were very good and made mostly from locally grown ingredients. The location overlooking the Lake of the dining room and lounge are excellent. The staff and management went out of there way to make sure our party were well looked after and were kept informed. The trip into the Wasgomuwa National Park was smoothly arranged with a knowledgeable guide and the best efforts made to show off its varied landscapes and fauna. Within the hotel, The verandah outside the bedrooms were a great place to relax looking over the paddy fields and lake. The construction of the hotel was interesting in the way modern materials were mixed with locally available and sustainable ones.

This is up there with one of the most amazing up lifting places I have ever stayed. Being in a unique tranquil jungle which is ran by the most amazing team. All for the cause of good. You move to learn so much about ecology and conservation at your own leisure. To the team Sarat (GEM), Chathura, Johnny, Chef, Erroll & Team. You truly made this an inspiring place to visit. We had an amazing stay at Web of Life. The accommodation was fantastic, and the owner's hospitality was outstanding. The serene atmosphere, surrounded by nature, provided a peaceful escape. 360° viewpoint was just by the corner and you could see the lake and surrounding landscape. Perfect for a morning walk. The constant melody of birds added to the overall tranquility. Errol, the owner, proved to be an exceptional host, offering insightful conversations about Sri Lankan life. Spending time with him was enriching, and his knowledge added depth to the experience. The accomodation is eco-friendly haven that goes beyond with its commitment to sustainability.
