Great atmosphere in the pub area at the front of the building and quiet, comfortable room up one flight of stairs. Enjoyed a drink in the bar and was given excellent recommendation for dinner. Outstanding full breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff.
Nothing I can think of
Location, car park, nice breakfast
Nothing
The location in Kenilworth old High Street was excellent. Parking was useful. The room was comfortable. The breakfast was well-cooked.
The room smelt stale and was very cold on arrival as the heating hadn’t been turned on (it warmed up next morning). The staff (except the female bar staff) were brusque and not very friendly or welcoming. Breakfast was adequate but felt rushed.
Friendly welcome. Good location. Great breakfast.
1. Worst aspect was the badly stained toilet seat and toilet itself. Only discovered as I was heading for bed. I tried to clean as best I could with a small towel and hand soap. It helped but I was shocked at the level of dirt/staining. I was close to leaving but it was past 10pm and wasn’t sure where else to go.
2. Room very hot and windows couldn’t be opened. Limited accessible sockets in room.
3. Difficult to access hotel from car park. Fob provided was incredibly temperamental and going via Reception as signed, only led to a door with another sign saying no access and to use the fob controlled door. So no choice other than to walk via the roads back to the hotel entrance.
4. Breakfast was good and well cooked. I felt I could forgive a lot as it was so good. Breakfast finishes at 8.45. I had thought this meant no more orders after this time. In practice your table has to be cleared and guests out by 8.45. Shortly before this time, as soon as I was, for example, finished with a plate or cup or anything in my table, it was immediately whisked away and the items from the buffet cleared, with many trips past my table to and from the kitchen. Needless to say I was out by 8.45. This efficiency continued when I was sitting in my car in the car park, setting up the sat nav for my journey at around 9.50am prior to leaving, when I was approached to check I was going before the 10am checkout. I am all for efficiency, but this made me feel very unwelcome.
5. The price is at the higher end of the local range, and with the positive reviews, I was so disappointed with the Old Bakery.
We really enjoyed our stay. We arrived on a Friday evening and checked in at the bar, which was a fairly busy, but the member of staff made time to chat to us, explain things like parking, breakfast and recommendations for places for dinner. Our room was comfortable and clean, with tea and coffee facilities. The shower was really powerful. We slept really well, it was very peaceful overnight. The bar was nice and cosy for a drink. Breakfast was nice too.
I would say the rooms need a bit of updating, they are a bit dated, bathroom included. You can tell this from the photos though. BUT they were really clean which is more important to us than how modern they were.
Breakfast could have had more choice in the help yourself section. There was literally 2 cereal choices. A bowl of fruit and 3 yoghurts. But the cooked option was nice enough.
Friendly staff, lovely bar, location
Only just clean enough, strange timings (like breakfast from 7 to 8h45) and kicked out literally at 10am - i couldn’t even sit in empty coffee / bar area and had to do my work from a bench outside in the rain. I paid a hotel room price but it’s not a hotel. Some breakfast items were past their use by date.
Good price for the area. Lovely pub. Warm cosy room. Quiet at night. Friendly staff. Nice breakfast.
Room a little on the small side for a double.
Excellent freshly cooked breakfast
nice breakfast
wonderful bath (large, very clean, traditional)
charming large glass frontage, but still a gentle English pub in its feel
Great location & beautifully maintained
