Clean a friendly. Good breskfast
Room, bathroom and bed quite small. Adequate but not fantastic furnishings.
Location is perfect for local walks, including down to the castle and abbey. Some good bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk. Staff were very helpful and friendly, for instance, booking a table at a local restaurant for us after a long and tiring drive. The place has a bar at the front, but it's peaceful in the rooms as they are situated away from the bar area. Breakfast was excellent. Good quality ingredients and nicely cooked. The bar itself is cosy and welcoming. Really enjoyed our stay.
Cosy and charming
Bathroom old and in dire need of a renovation eg cracked sink and tiles, some grout mould
Beautiful location, lovely and helpful staff. Nice extras like bottled water. Very clean. Decor lovely.
Bed was a bit hard. Breakfast buffet options a little limited.
Great breakfast. Beautiful location with fantastic walks through the abbey ruins. Plethora of excellent pubs and food walking distance.
We were only here for two nights!
All good
Shelf space would be useful in the bathroom of room 2
Comfortable clean rooms
Water pressure
Good location, friendly staff, good selection of real ale
Sound insulation of hotel room could be better. Slightly unusual that the hotel does not open until 3pm each day.
Restaurant was nice
Rooms dated. Mattress was cheap and uncomfortable. Breakfast not until 8, not ideal for business stays
Great place, clean, good location and very friendly and helpful staff
Shower was a bit small
Comfortable bed, friendly staff, quiet room, well cooked breakfast
On the breakfast menu It advertised "vegetarian options available- please ask staff for details ", we asked if they had veggie sausages and they said the only choices were what was on the menu.
We enjoyed a late drink at the bar on one evening, some other people came in at 10.15 and asked for a drink and were told "we are closed" even though they said they were residents. Half an hour later at 10.45 we saw someone being sold a pint of beer and thought this was inconsistent. Whilst the bed was comfy I found the room probably needed some TLC.
Cosy pub with good service. Staff friendly and helpful, helping on arrival and departure with heavy suitcase on stairs. We particularly enjoyed the breakfast experience: great food, well cooked (eggs especially, thanks chef) and all the trimmings of a full English Breakfast, and very good service. Generally, the hotel is larger than expected from the front view and goes back directly behind the pub on 2 levels with 14 bedrooms, which are rather small but big enough for one night's stay.
We arrived late Friday afternoon from overseas with lots of luggage - the start of a long holiday weekend and the pub at the front was busy. Parking near the hotel was impossible, even to unload the car so we parked about 300 yards away and went to investigate. Reception is the doorway into the bar serving counter - we were checked in quickly and informed that we could access the rear of the hotel by car for unloading. There were no parking spaces in the tiny carpark but we were told we could park on a nearby quiet road, and this is what we did without problems, about 5 mins walk from the rear access to the hotel. The biggest discomfort was not the hotel's fault - the temperature that day was close to 30C and our upstairs room was under the eaves. The room was extrememly hot, the window did not open and there was no fan (tired, I didn't feel like battling the crowd in the bar to try to find a fan).
