Quiet place but the audio system by the pool it’s more annoying that helpfully has too much static

Had a great stay. Staff were nice and helpful. The restaurant had decent option. The place is far from town but they have shuttles running, and you’re right next to Maderas Beach.
This is our third time since last year, always very pleased and very happy, to bad but really bad the common kitchen is no longer working!! Real bummer!
It is a very beautiful place to see. The pool is great. The location is between two beaches. Maderas is fantastic but you have a steep hill. Marcella is also very nice and an easy walk to get there.
We paid 55 euro at night and that is expensive for what you get. Room was comfortable but very basic. There was more staff than guests and that is not good for the vibe. We ate breakfast and dinner there once and we're the only ones. Portions were very very small5. I hate it when the menu prices are without tax which is sadly common in this country, as for the 10% ' voluntary' tip. So then everything is a quarter more expensive. Because it is supposed to be voluntary, ask before you add it to the bill. The price of the beer was really over the top. 100 Córdoba excluding tax. And that is not "Sociotel" but "anti-sociotel". Giving that the place is so secluded. All of this made that we did not want to recreate here. We found a newly opened very good mini market 500 meter away and so we could make our own breakfast. And ate and had beer at the beach restaurants. Does this place ever wonder why their restaurant is empty?
Location isn’t great. 15 minute walk up and down a huge hill to get to the beach. It’s far from everything else, and nothing else is around except for hush (great dinner! - Up another hill and a couple of restaurants at the beach). When we first arrived we were genuinely the only two guests staying there. It had a huge eerie feeling because it was so empty and quiet. The staff weren’t approachable and still refused to let us check in early (arrived at 1pm, check in was 3pm). That afternoon a man and his child arrived which helped the uneasy feeling a bit. There’s no kitchen. We booked for 3 nights but left after 2.
In theory this place should be nice
They have clearly given up on this place. Not even sure where to begin.
Food - average at best, and horrendously overpriced. They’ve kept Selina’s menu but no longer offer half the things on there, and are making the rest up as they go. Ham and cheese sandwich was a burger bun with burger cheese for example. Granola bowl (pictured) came with singular spoon of granola.
Drinks unbelievably overpriced - 2-3x more than we have paid elsewhere.
Vibes - SO OFF. This place is a ghost town, we saw 4 other guests over 2 nights, and prices make it impossible to justify hanging out at the hostel. It made me think of the movie Palm Springs (trust me) it’s like a time warp of the day Selina went bust. It was genuinely completely dead.
Facilities - not particularly well kept or clean, teepee tents are super cramped. Everything is super tired.
There is no kitchen despite the page saying that there is.
Honestly for the price we paid we were shocked by this place. Our most disappointing stay in 6 weeks of travel so far.
I really enjoyed my stay here. Calmer than other hostels which is exactly what I wanted. Still some nice interaction with other guests. Pool was great, yoga every morning which I loved and my room was comfortable and well priced! Great location near Hush and Maderas Beach
My time here was amazing. The staff was incredibly kind, attentive, and accommodating - even for people who do not speak Spanish well (like me haha). There are lots of opportunities to connect with other visitors through the hostel's programming. My favorite night was karaoke where everyone - some staff included - had fun participating together. The yoga classes were also a highlight. The open air shala is beautiful and the teacher (Aisha) was such a grounding presence. A perfect way to start the day! Lastly, you're close to the beach and local restaurant (Machete) here. I found it a great stay with my group.
I LOVED my stay at the Selina (Societel) Maderas...it's located closer to the best beaches in the area. And the staff was AMAZING. Gustavo made sure that we had everything that we needed! Heidi, David and Chef Danilo had my regular dinner order memorized by my third night...and the morning yoga with Aisha was a highlight of my trip. Her restorative approach ensured that with all the travel my body and spirit was grounded for the 2 weeks I was there. The shala was beautiful and open where we could see horses grazing during morning sessions. To get you ready for long days of play and surfing, her yoga classes are exactly what you need.
After spending time in San Juan, I was REALLY glad I booked something quieter and closer to Playa Maderas. You can hop the Oro shuttle into town (just $7 round trip) when you need or rent a Moto. [Insider tip...go to Machete for brunch (just a 10 minute walk) and get the egg sandwich on homemade sourdough bread...you're welcome!] We even had horseback riding at sunset that picked us up via horse at the hotel! We then rode to the beach for an amazing ride, grabbed food, caught the sunset and rode back. One of my favorite activities of the trip. Just ask Gustavo to book it for you. Another great excursion was a catamaran trip with Nica Sail for a full day adventure of paddle board and sunset sail that took us to a private beach. So much to do in San Juan del Sur but do yourself a favor and make the Societel Maderas your base for adventures.

I stayed in the glamping tent. It was quiet and private but felt cramped. The pool was nice. The location close to Playa Maderas was good. The staff were friendly and helpful
It was advertised to have yoga but there was none. The restaurant had poor quality, overpriced food. There were not any events happening there. It was quite quiet with very little atmosphere. The glamping tents let bugs in and the bathrooms nearby were never stocked.
Its also a 30 min shuttle ride from SJDS and far away from any restaurants, besides Hush. This was not a nice SociaTel to stay at.
this is nice place you can feel is in harmony customer service very good overall is a good place to stay 10 15 minute drive to the beach, Madera
Good overall space, nice common areas like the pool, and covered lounge. Friendly staff for the most part. The 4 bed dorm rooms are nice, and the AC is good.
The kitchen is now closed!! When we booked, it showed photos of a community kitchen for guests, but when we arrived it had been closed (we didn't get notified of this before our arrival). This forces you to eat at the onsite restaurant (which is not cheap for the amount or quality of the meals) go elsewhere at other restaurants to get more and better food for that same price!. Also the location is quite far away from town, and because the kitchen is closed, you have to pay a lot of money on shuttle's to and from San Juan Del Sur if you want to find cheaper food options. We ended up hitch-hiking to and from the town most days. A lot of the activities that were mentioned on their booking profile also never happened or are not offered anymore.
Nice pool and big rooms.
Take into consideration that since it's out of town you can either take the shuttle from the hotel which goes on specific hours or paying around 20$ to get to San Juan Del Sur. Renting a motorbike is the best option!
The rooms were not clean nor well maintained, we had to switch rooms due to a door problem. The new room we got had a leak from the toilets.. most of the facilities of the place were looking old and rusty.. feels like it was once a good place.
Great service and amazing people the place is overall nice and clean well Maintain and the staff is very helpful and knowledgeable.
I stayed at this hotel over a month ago. I booked it through Hotels.com and paid for it on the platform. However, when I arrived, the hotel claimed they had no record of my payment. They mentioned something about it not appearing in their system.
Trying to be cooperative, I paid again with my credit card, even though I presented confirmation of my prior payment. I was assured the issue would be resolved by the end of the night or the next morning at the latest. However, when it still wasn’t resolved by the time I had to leave, I was promised I would receive a refund one way or another. It’s been over a month and the hotel first claimed a refund is in process but has since stopped corresponding. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place.
