Old but still good
Pros:

Located just a few meters away form a subway station. Surrounded by higher buildings so no view whatever the level. Very large suite with huge bathroom. Very friendly staff at the restaurant, and very considerate at the lounge.

Not what we are expected.

Thank you for your email.

However, I would like to take this opportunity to share some honest feedback regarding my recent stay at InterContinental Kuala Lumpur.

I had chosen your hotel specifically to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and prior to my check-in I had made a simple request for a small birthday gesture in the room – even something as simple as a birthday note would have been meaningful.

During check-in, I reiterated this request to your front desk staff, Samer. I was assured that it had been “noted”, which naturally gave me the impression that the request would be handled.

Unfortunately, when we entered the room, there was absolutely nothing prepared. No note, no gesture, and no acknowledgement of the birthday request at all.

What disappointed me even more was the overall attitude during the check-in process. The front desk experience felt rather indifferent and unwelcoming, which was quite surprising for a hotel of InterContinental’s reputation and standard. Front desk staff are the first impression of the hotel, and the interaction did not reflect the level of hospitality one would expect from a five-star property.

That said, I would like to commend Mr. Arshad for his professionalism when the matter was raised. He handled the situation politely and with a much better hospitality approach, which I genuinely appreciated.

My intention in sharing this feedback is not to criticise for the sake of it, but rather to highlight that sometimes it is the small gestures that make a stay memorable – especially when guests choose your hotel for special occasions.

I hope this feedback can be taken constructively so that future guests celebrating special moments will receive the level of attention and hospitality that a five-star hotel should consistently deliver.

Short stay but good!
Pros:

The location is excellent, just a few minutes’ walk to the KLCC area, and it’s great for an evening stroll. The room is very spacious with a comfortable bed and pillows. Unfortunately, the pool was closed during our stay, but the hotel offers guests the option to use the pool at the nearby Pullman Hotel. We missed the breakfast timing, so we didn’t get a chance to try it. The bellman staff were very helpful. We will definitely return for another stay soon. 😊

Beautiful hotel with an exceptional Club Lounge
Pros:

For context; we had one night only in KL before our flight back to the UK.
I often use the Intercontinental hotels around the world but this is my first time in KL.

As an Ambassador of IHG, upon arrival we were taken to the Club Lounge for check in.
This is probably one of the most beautiful lounges in the world and the team hosting there are excellent. We were make to feel like VIPs. The check in was smooth and we got changed to their dress code policy and returned for drinks and canapés which were excellent.
Breakfast the next day there was also very good.

Our room was upgraded and the suite was large. 2 bathrooms meant we could quickly get ready and we spent some time in the Bentleys pub before retiring.

We’d definitely recommend getting a club level room as this enhanced our stay.
Based on the experience here, we are looking at returning to KL in the future.

Pools under repair = not sure for how long... prices do not reflect this.
Pros:

Staff were polite and welcoming. Clean facilities.

Cons:

I booked to stay at this hotel in Feb 2026 - with the expectation being that it had a pool so i could relax and cool down in the Malaysian Humidity.

Nowhere and at no time during booking was it mentioned that the pool would be closed for renovation (for quite some time).

The hotel staff offered a shuttle service to a hotel 15 minutes away to use the pool there, but its not the same is it. Think of that logistically for a moment. As a single traveller that was off-putting, but imagine having to deal with this with your family with young kids etc?

Not sure when the pool will re open.. but worth mentioning that there are 30 other hotels in the vicinity with pools, for cheaper rates.
