Charming lakeside and lake view hotel.
Pros:

Fabulous location on Thirlmere. Rooms were spacious. Breakfasts were exceptional. Extremely welcoming host who went out of his way to make you feel at home.

Cons:

WiFi was a bit patchy at times. Bar menu for meals was a little restricted, but there was an excellent pub within walking distance.

The most relaxing, friendly and peaceful stay Great hosts, great food and above all a great view.
Pros:

The responsiveness of the staff, fantastic view of a stunning garden and lake. Great evening meal and breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble.

Cons:

Finding the place was a wee bit of a challenge if you use the postcode, probably best no to lol. Maybe a brief description of where the turn off is (i.e. what side of the road when driving in, beyond the pub etc) Minor as we did find it at the 3rd attempt... Slightly awkward moment when we realized the twin room we booked was not the only choice. Booking site didn't show any options but the proprietor immediately rectified that with a beautiful double bed and a lake view, superb!

Very nice historic building in a beautiful peaceful setting with lovely views.
Pros:

Lovely location, very quiet and peaceful with a gorgeous view. Friendly, helpful staff.

Cons:

A bit more attention to the small details/comforts that finish off and elevate the experience would make all the difference.

I can imagine the foreign markets loving this ancient hotel but we didn’t. Old, spooky and run down. Very expensive fo w
Pros:

The view. The staff were very friendly.

Cons:

This is by no means a slating as it must be very hard to upkeep such an old property but it is very tired (with the exception of the bathrooms they look as if they’ve been recently renovated). The rooms were not clean. There was mould all over the bathroom blind. The rooms had cobwebs everywhere and behind the headboard was just dirty. The towels were falling to pieces and there was a continual smell of damp.

When we returned from Keswick (around 9pm) there was no one anywhere. The walk from the bus stop to the hotel is treacherous! The road to the hotel is full of huge potholes and there is no lighting.

We were the only guests in for the night but on arrival, it was hard to get into the property and one of the employees walked straight past us and ignored us. When he walked back we said the door was locked - he then engaged with us.
