Bethel hotel Elk Point

I arrived to find noöne there at all. A note on the counter from the so-called manager said that she would be back in 45 minutes and gave a telephone number to call. Noöne answered the telephone. She made no apology for leaving me to wait so long, nor did she greet me. As soon as I had checked in, she disappeared, never to be seen again, though I did bump into her ten minutes later at the grocery store (she was carrying a carton of ice cream and didn't acknowledge me). The room was minimally equipped: no telephone (not that anyone was present at the front desk anyway), a broken lamp, no source of ice. In the morning, again noöne was present, nor was the promised breakfast provided; since no worker could be found anywhere, I flung the keys through a hole in the window at the front desk and trusted to fate that someone would care to deal with them. Parking is on the street only, with no way to plug an engine-block heater in, so a car left overnight on a cold day would not start the next morning. All of this cost more than $137. Small wonder that people in the town told me to stay the next time in St Paul, 20 minutes away. Certainly I would never come back to this dump. «Bethel» means 'house of God' in Hebrew. Well, if this is where God lives, give me Hell instead.
