Faraway Cottages, Auli

Location was serene and beautiful but as name suggests far away from the town, so slightly inconvenient for any other activity in town.

Faraway Cottages Auli stands out as one of the most scenic hotels I have ever experienced.


Views: The hotel offers a panoramic 360-degree vista of the surrounding mountain ranges. On clear days, the views from the property are truly mesmerizing. The accompanying images were captured directly from the hotel premises.

Service: The staff at Faraway Cottages Auli provided impeccable service, leaving no room for complaint. Their responses were consistently prompt and efficient. Furthermore, they offered valuable insights into various local attractions in Auli, assisted with my itinerary planning, and arranged a taxi for my ascent to Upper Auli.


Food: We consumed all our meals, including the complimentary breakfast, at the hotel. The food quality was excellent, distinguished by its delicious taste and generous portion sizes.

Parking: On-site parking is available and provided free of charge. Please refer to the images depicting the parking area.


What I really loved was the service, the views, and how peaceful and quiet it was —a perfect escape from the city's craziness.


Important Considerations:

(a) The hotel is situated at an elevation of approximately 7,700 feet above sea level. Given the absence of elevators, certain rooms are accessible only via stairs. Guests may experience fatigue at this altitude when navigating stairs or moving around the property. It is advisable to assess your fitness level and that of your companions, and to coordinate with the hotel staff regarding room assignments accordingly.

(b)Upon reaching Joshimath and turning onto Auli Road, the roadways become narrower. Google Maps may exhibit some inaccuracies in this area. Nevertheless, the hotel staff are exceptionally helpful and responsive, providing clear guidance. Drivers with experience should navigate these roads without difficulty; I personally drove a Hyundai Creta and encountered no issues. For those less confident in their driving abilities, hiring a taxi is recommended.

The property is very peaceful, beautifully designed. The rooms are awesome.. very spacious and well heated in peak of winters. Electric Heated blankets are provided for extra warmth. The stay was super comfortable. Great hospitality, the staff is really helpful and polite. Great food as well. Overall a fabulous experience. We didnt feel like stepping put of the property at all… had a great relaxing vacation in the middle of mountains!

We didn’t want to leave. The setting was breathtaking and staff incredibly sweet and helpful. The rooms are spacious and beautiful and staff provide assistance with every detail of trip.

Property is excellent, though location is well inside from the mail road. Clean, staffs are very cooperative and cordial. though the price is above the market rate.

One of the most beautiful properties I have ever been to. Such a humble staff, especially Mr. Bipin and Mr. Vijay, don’t really remember the other names, but each one of them who assisted was truly cooperating and helpful in the best way possible. Amazing food and hospitality.

I had visited with family (02 adults plus kids) and stayed for 10 nights, staying between mountains was masmerising. Food was amazing and staff was very cooperative.

Great experience end to end. Even before we reached, we got a call with key travel information and directions.

Unlike most mountain hotels, rooms here have tall ceilings and tall French windows, are very spacious, and are very tastefully done. Large balconies provide a great view of the mountains and apple orchards. All I could hear in the morning was birdsong and sound of the stream in the distance. Spotted several birds and a wild mountain goat just from
my balcony!

Every member of the staff is eager to go over and above to provide a great experience. Bipin leads a great team - Vijay (Service), Balwant (housekeeping), and chef Sandeep.

The owner is closely involved in personalising the food experience. We had several dishes from the local cuisine expertly made by chef Sandeep. Bichhu ghaas ka saag, chaisu, jakhiya aloo...and many more.

The restaurant is pretty and provides great views of the mountains.

The cottages are near a beautiful little village which makes for a good early morning or evening stroll. Locals are very welcoming and willing to engage in a conversation.

Would love to come back again some time !
