A beautiful hotel with wonderful rooms and very friendly and helpful staff - and the perfect location to visit Tiger Leaping Gorge. I suggest staying at least 2 nights.
Visiting Tiger Leaping Gorge, Shangri-La or Lijiang? Ask for driver 'Mr. Ali' - who is not an employee. He did a great job during 2 days. Low price - please tip him!
Fair value for money if compared to other hotels in China, i.e., very affordable. There is even a washing machine. I was not charged for using it. Clothes will dry within 2-3 hours > on the roof, i.e., on sunny days.
The actual town center is about 1 km away. Walking is not advisable as the road is unsafe due to heavy traffic. There is marginal noise from the traffic, but even as a light sleeper I had no problems resting well. If travelling to Shangri-La the taxi driver can show you this Tibetan style town. There is little to see per se. There is a supermarket, albeit, not the finest. Shangri-La offers better choices.
A Chinese restaurant diagonal across the street cooks tasty meals - and they speak a little English.
The free breakfast caters only to Chinese tastes.
The wonderful and friendly front office staff is excellent and fast in using automatic translation.
However, they could learn a little more English - which I encouraged substantially.
Otherwise, I do thank them very much for their efforts and send them my greetings.
Everything was way better than we expected. The staff was extremely helpful when it comes to hiking-related inquiries.
