We visited Costa Rica last month and we took four tours with Freddie’s Experiences. Each was filled with its own uniqueness and a full palate of experiences. At first we took a safari at the river and then fed iguanas at the park. The guide was very knowledgeable about all nature species but also provided insights into local culture. Then we went on the Adrenaline tour - the name speaks for itself but speaking of adrenaline, this was the most trying zipline experience. Then we went on a nature walk, with coffee and cocaa tour included, and were very impressed by all but the specific cocoa and chocolate farm was out of this world. Again, the guide was very knowledgeable. The fourth trip was a sunset boat tour which included a full bar and snorkeling experience. All these tours were very different and provided a very unique perspective on its own, which diversified the trip. Highly recommended!
This all inclusive resort was very comfortable and easy to navigate. Great location with a calm atmosphere. Staff was helpful and friendly. The rooms were spacious and clean. Food was great. “Freddy’s Tours” were amazing! We enjoyed our 5 night stay very much!
It was our first time in Costa Rica, and it definitely won't be our last! We had a few non-negotiable criteria when selecting a vacation spot, and CC Beach Front Papagayo met and/or exceeded them all:
First, beautiful calm beach. The hotel is located on Playa Panama, in the Gulf of Papagayo. The water is clear, calm (no waves at all), and very refreshing. The sand is volcanic, so it's dark, but it's very soft and there are no rocks at all leading into the water. It's a public beach, but no one will bother you.
Second, the dining. There is one main buffet restaurant where you can have all your meals. (There is a smaller "restaurant" that requires reservations and has a small tasting menu, but we didn't do that so we cannot comment.). The buffet never failed to please. Breakfast featured made-to-order omelets and a selection of fresh fruits, baked goods, cereals, yogurt, sausage...and delicious coffee made in the Costa Rican style. Lunch had a selection of meat, fish, veggies, all great. Dinner was a different theme every night-- Asian, Italian, Mexican, Costa Rican, Caribbean, etc., all fantastic. There is something for everyone. (Hats off to the chef, Christian. )You will not go hungry here. Also, there are bars in the restaurant and at the pools, so you will not go thirsty ;-)
Third, the accommodations. This is a beautifully laid out, spacious property. There are only 50 rooms, so it's never crowded. The rooms might be a little old, but everything worked fine and was kept clean by the staff. It is very quiet here after 9-10 PM, and there is no nightly entertainment. But that is what we wanted: peace and quiet, and CC Papagayo delivered.
Fourth , and very importantly, the staff. Every single staff member we interacted with, from front desk to restaurant to cleaning/maintenance, was very pleasant and friendly. We'd like to single out a few staff members who stood out: Kendy, Alberto, Kevin, Brian, and Daniel in the restaurant. They always greeted us with a big smile and made conversation with us. Thank you for making us feel welcome and at home.
Andrea, who works at the tour desk, also was a pleasant presence to greet us every morning/afternoon. (Also, she is great with setting up the right excursion for you--what fits your needs and interests. Highly recommend the Rio Celeste Rainforest Tour.)
All in all, if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful, clean and beautiful resort in Costa Rica, look no further than CC Papagayo. Highly, highly, highly recommended.
The hotel was quiet and very peaceful. There was only 1 pool in use as the other was out of order the whole week. The beach was great and The water calm for floating around. The workers were more than nice. Shout out to Adrian our bartender. He made us feel very welcome and always went above and beyond. The food was ok. Not much variety but something to eat all day was a good benefit. I would visit again! Overall good for the price
If you're considering an ATV tour in Costa Rica, stop looking and book with Freddy Costa Rican Tours & Experiences—you won't regret it!
My wife and I did the 3-hour ATV tour with Andy, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our entire trip. Neither of us had ever ridden an ATV before. Still, Andy was incredibly patient and thorough, taking the time to explain everything and making sure we felt comfortable before hitting the trails. Thanks to his guidance, we picked it up quickly and enjoyed every minute of the adventure.
The tour itself was amazing. We rode through beautiful forest trails, splashed through muddy water crossings, visited a local town, and even made our way down to the beach. Along the way, Andy stopped to show us white-faced monkeys and shared information about the area, making the experience feel much more personal than just a typical tour.
What truly set Andy apart was the effort he put into making our experience unforgettable. He took incredible photos and videos throughout the tour, and honestly, some of the best pictures we have from our entire vacation. We were able to focus on having fun while he captured memories we'll keep forever.
This was the perfect mix of adventure, adrenaline, scenery, and local culture. Andy's enthusiasm, professionalism, and attention to detail made all the difference. If you're anywhere near the area, do yourself a favor and book with Freddy's. It was an absolute blast from start to finish, and we'd do it again in a heartbeat! 10/10
Freddy sat with me & listened to what I wanted in an excursion. He showed up on time in a beautiful clean car with chilled water waiting inside for us. As he was driving he shared some knowledge about his country & was looking for wildlife. He spotted a family of howler monkeys that we could view through the sun roof! We went on a river cruise which was phenomenal seeing crocs, exotic birds & monkeys. One even went in the roof of the boat! He took us to an authentic Costa Rican house for a delicious lunch followed by a pottery demonstration. Freddy was knowledgeable & professional. For the record I am in the travel business for over 30 years & know a great tour when I go on one.
Pura Vida!
Let me share my thoughts on my most recent experience with CC Beachfront Papagayo hotel.
This was my 2nd time here (1st was last November), and again the experience was just great!
When on vacation, security, food safety and cleanliness mean a lot to me - and all these are at a high level in this hotel!
We did not book the restaurant as we lived the buffet - the food was always fresh, well cooked, there was always a great choice, even on low occupancy days.
We saw an excellent service from Christian at the restaurant, the cooking staff, waiters Kevin, Kendy, Conrad, Melany to name some of them. The whole team is actually great.
The ladies who were cleaning our room did a great job too. The room was very spacious btw.
There’s a lot of parking if you arrive with a car.
The aquatic equipment is new and of a good quality.
The reception staff are also helpful and react quickly to any questions or requests.
All in all great place!
Elena
Everything was great
Ambience , setting , great people making you feel like at home
Food is incredible , always fresh and you can find pretty interesting combinations for any foodies . You do not get bored with the repetitive choices - always something new :)
My daughter who is a very picky eater and spoiled by New York food scenes was happy and satisfied
Staff is great and all servers are great and Kevin Alberto and Candy are special. Eric I think I am writing right name makes great old fashion drink and excellent Sangria . Rooms are spacious and cleaning service is great. Will come back.
The culinary experience is exceptional, with a wide variety of themed dining options offered each day.
What truly stands out is the hospitality of the entire staff — they are incredibly kind, attentive, and make you feel right at home.
I’ve stayed here a couple of times, and each visit has been even better than the last.
Do not stay here! Sold us on ocean view room for 600$ a night tried to give us on a blurry obstructed ocean view facing a park that you could only see from a balcony. Place is run down and rooms smell like mildew (we stay at several resorts in Costa Rica and never had a room that smelled) .When we asked for our money back or a discount they refused and said it's their policy to never refund money. The manager (which is only available by Whatsap as he works offsite) told us they only have obstructed ocean views and if I wanted a true ocean view I would need to pay for more for another upgrade. I showed them my confirmation which clearly says ocean view (nothing about obstructed view) and they confirmed the superior ocean view is just a room with an obstructed view from the balcony only.
While at the front desk we looked up the rate for the room for that night and showed them it was $300 less but they still would not entertain the idea of a discount of any kind. We left and went across the street to the El Mangroove and were treated like Royalty with a true ocean view and open beach that you don't need a key to go to (unlike the cc) at the same price the CC was.
As a final note there was a family checking in after us and although they showed the room description to the front desk and showed that it should hold 4 people they were charged to upgrade their room in order to have 4 people in the room - clearly this is a regular scam they do.
Love that the resort is so comfortable and welcoming while being nestled in a lot of beautiful nature. Shade provided by abundant trees not umbrellas. But if you want sun there is lots! Sunset every night directly across the bay. Snorkelling a short walk from resort along the beach. Food and people were great!
Got a small jellyfish sting in the water. They are only tiny. And our room could use a little update.
Great staff; really attentive to details. Wonderful accommodations and great weather and temperature + direct access to the sea. Just perfect!
The meals, staff and location of the main restaurant was great. Open layout with great views of the grounds and water. Very central and close to our room. Our room was very clean and well kept. The master suite was HUGE for 2 people, far more than we need for a quick weekend stay. The staff are all super friendly and willing to help to make your stay. The resort is 30 minutes from the airport. The beach felt safe and there wasn't too much solicitation to purchase hammocks, coconut water etc. We grabbed some local smoked BBQ and it was great. Had a massage just outside the gates of the resort on the beach, also great. Pools were cleaned and balanced daily. Everything is very close & central. It's not a big resort. Family focused.
AIRPORT SHUTTLE- booking needs to be a simpler process. Expect to pay $70-$90 USD (one way) for a taxi or 3rd party hire to get you to and from the airport. I had reached out to the property to organize the airport shuttle (3 times weeks in advance with no response - so we tried to book a car rental - another story all together).
No Umbrellas - limited shade at the perimeter of the pool and no umbrellas with the table or loungers.
Fantastic property at a great beach with great service and food
La ubicación de hotel excelente así como la comida y la amabilidad del personal. Super recomendado!!
Se podría aumentar más las sillas de playa y ser un como más confortables!!
Beautiful hotel and grounds with lots of shade, plenty of loungers. Excellent food, snacks available to order all day, and ice cream freezer open anytime.
A couple of kayaks and paddle boards - one usually available. Ping pong table and foosball table and billiards for fun in the evenings. Beach volleyball court wasn’t very well maintained, but useable. Nice gym.
Lots of jellyfish in the beach, so we did not swim much in the ocean. Staff will bring loungers out to the beach for you.
Room was lovely, clean, modern. No bugs anywhere except mosquitos/noseeums at dusk.
We stayed on the resort for a week in March and absolutely enjoyed our stay. We stayed in 601 and it worked for us very well. Nice , clean room. Good housekeeping. Beautiful grounds, nice pools, beautiful beach. Staff on the resort is absolutely wonderful. From the lady at the front desk to all the waiters in the restaurant. And to the wonderful guy at the gates to the beach. Who was always there with a smile. Ready to help. Many, many thanks. (Sorry, I do not remember the names)
Food at the resort absolutely exceeded our expectations and we traveled alot and appreciate good food. It was great. Many thanks to Chef Cristian (not sure if I spelled the name correctly )
We would love to come back. Thank you.
This was our first time in Guanacaste Costa Rica. The boutique hotel was great. It was very laid back, and small and you became familiar with everyone staying. You could leave your bag at your chair without worry.
The food was amazing, lots of variety but everything tasted great. The staff was super friendly and helpful (restaurant staff, beach chair/beach equipment staff, Room cleaners, front desk)
A special shout out needs to go to the pool bar staff, they often work long shifts on their own and always make you feel welcome and are great to talk to. They really made our trip great. A special thanks to Manny, Erick & Danny.
The resort was well kept, the grounds keepers were hard working and the pool boys worked non stop. It was a never ending job keeping the leaves out!
The hotel is right in the beach, and the water is calm because it is in a bay with some boats. If you walk down the beach you can see the white face monkeys. After dinner there wasn’t any entertainment, all the most people were super exhausted by that point so it wasn’t a big deal for us.
We really enjoyed our stay, if we could give one suggestion to the hotel, it would be to provide more umbrellas or shaded areas by the pool. We often found it hard to get out of the sun when you needed a break.
The room was spacious and clean. Staff was very friendly.
Problems with the pool. One was closed for the time we were there and the other turned green.
