Good price
I talked with the owner in advance about the tax price. She requested me to give a higher percentage of tax than normal to get a bill with tax and I agreed. However when my colleagues checked out, she requested higher tax than what we had discussed. Also when I booked other 2 rooms on the app, she called me and told me there were no rooms because she forgot to lock them on Booking. What made me feel more uncomfortable was she told me to cancel the rooms although these rooms’ policy was canceled with fees. I didn’t agree because it wasn’t my fault with these bookings but she told if I didn’t cancel she would cancel the bookings herself with the reasons that customers didn’t show up.
The property was beautiful and the staff were really nice and spoke great English and upgraded us for free. We would highly recommend this property to anyone interested as we felt it was a great value for money.

Clean big room with nice view over the town.
Couldn't control air conditioner. It was too hot at the beginning because couldn't switch it on.
Then it switched on itself and I got cold in the middle of the night because not possible to switch it off.
As soon as I arrived, they upgraded my room from a dormitory to my own room with air conditioning and a sea view. Although I had to pay extra for this, it was well worth it. They also allowed me to reduce the number of nights with no issues, which I really appreciated. They organised a tour to Halong Bay which was a really good price, as some others paid much more for the same tour. There was hot water. The location was good to be dropped off/picked up for tours.
To do things other than boat tours, you have to get a grab car to go across the bridge, the grab motorbikes are never available so its a bit more expensive for a solo traveller. But this wasn't the fault of the hotel and was still really cheap.
Lovely and cozy place with anything one could ask for! Extremely friendly and kind staff. Located on a hill so the view was absolutely astonishing. It was a greate pleasure to stay there!

Song Kieu Hotel exceeded our expectations as the hosts made us feel very welcomed and well-looked after. It is more like a homestay and the mother+ two sons all speak good English. They offered to upgrade our room, book a tour and also book our onward transportation. Our room was spacious (with two beds, but we only used one), clean and had a great view to the city, sea and mountains on the background. It took us around 10-15min to walk down to the center, eventho we were happy to dine in the vegetarian restaurant next door. We highly recommend others to stay at Song Kieu to experience thoughtful and cheerful local hospitality.
The bed is not the softest, yet we had a deep sleep. Towels are mid-size, which we found funny (we are both taller than 175cm). Neither of these things were of trouble to us, but might be worth mentioning for future guests.

Location : 1 km from the centre, so good actually, can easily walk to centre.
Staff/owner : Ms Kieu Hanh speaks English and she is very helping.
View : from hotel room, if you have sea view ,better...otherwise roo.s OK with everything available except tea bags.

The owner and her son were super friendly and helpful. He took me for some authentic breakfast and they also helped me book a bus ticket back to Hanoi.
It was difficult for me to find the right temperature in the shower - either too cold or too hot 😅 but other than that the room was good!
All about this place is fantastic. The rooms are super comfy, spacious and clean, with beautiful views to the bay, and for an affordable price. But what’s most remarkable is that everyone in the family who owns this place is just heart melting! They welcomed me and made me feel at home since the first moment, helped me getting tours, transportation around the town and to Hanoi airport. They also put together a cooking class and it felt like a family dinner, which was delicious and super affordable too!

Wi-Fi Worked 95% of the time
a home from home. I felt incredibly welcome here. was treated to guided tours from Hạnh two sons to learn about the local area. We also made fresh spring rolls together which was a lovely touch. will definitely return to stay when I come back to Vietnam next Summer.
