Managed by a private host
So far the best place I've stayed in during my travels in South America. Doesn't have a party-hostel vibe, nor is the fanciest, nor is in the city centre, but is simple, cheap and kitchen&shower equipped just right for everyone who doesn't seek for a luxury but calm home-like place. Liked everything about it and Carmen with her dad will take care of you ❤️
Great value for money. The owner is extremely helpful and kind, responding very fast to messages and happy to help with anything you need. Bring USD dollars to pay, if possible. There is kitchen available too. The location is quiet and safe, but quite far from the old town, you need to be prepared to walk 25-30 minutes to the main square of Sucre. The rooms are a bit cold, but you may ask for an extra blanket. The bathroom is a bit uncomfortable and very basic, but does the job. Overall, I recommend this place if you are ready to accept a bit of inconvenience and distance to walk to town (you can also take a taxi), because it’s fair standard for the price you pay, and the atmosphere is really pleasant.
NOTHING!
The woman (Carmen) is a scammer. We booked for two nights, but we checked out after 1 night because of her. The prices on booking are in USD, but (ofcourse) you are allowed to pay in BOB. The official rate from USD to BOB is 7. She forced us to pay in USD, and if we want to pay in BOB the woman (Carmen) asks for a rate of the Mercado Negro 11,50! This is almost double. This rate (11,50) is NOT the official rate. She cursed my Bolivian girlfriend out that she was part of the cause of the current crisis in Bolivia. This woman is really problematic, who seems to have anger issues if it doesnt go her way. After we left, the woman chased us 2km on the street, screaming and shouting curse words. She also got physical, and pulled on my clothes. She threatened to call the police, and i said, okay, do it! Ofcourse she didnt do it because her business is illegal and she doesnt have papers.
The rate was incredibly fair, the family are a bunch of sweethearts, the bed was comfortable, the Wi-Fi was good. Don Prudencio and the sweet older were so tierno, heartwarming.
If you want to eat expensive food and hang out with other tourists in the city center, go elsewhere.
If you want to experience an authentic down-home slice of life on the outskirts of the city, in an incredible three level terraced home built onto a hillside, rent this place. Carmen, who coordinated the rental, was flexible and communicative and went out of her way to help me arrange a taxi to the airport. I walked over an ancient footbridge, watched sunset over the hills and ate at a local comedor a few blocks away, and it was one of the most authentic experiences of my entire time in Bolivia.
The hosts are very lovely, the location is calm but not that far out from the center (20 min walk) there's a kitchen!
Bed is very hard or very used, I felt like having actual soap in the kitchen instead of crushed up bar soap would be more hygienic for washing dishes in the kitchen.
Loved the place !!
Carmen is the big point, this woman with a lot of energy make you feel super chill, she’s also guide (and the best one)
Carmen is very friendly and gave me a lot of tips about the city. The location is great, just a few minutes walking from the historical center and is very safe.
The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Our host made us feel comfortable and at ease. They also have a nice kitchen and terrace in the sun. And they have the cutest cat. She might go sit on your lap if you are kind to her.
The matrasses were on the thin and hard side. For me personally is was fine, but maybe it's something to take into consideration.
